Sims 2020 Turnover Total

Agreed, but it was kind of a ööööty time to throw Yates in there imo

He didn't have it against FSU either. Deep ball accuracy anyway, maybe he has touch (depending on how you define it). There is enough film out there on him now that DC's can see it and plan for it.
Deep ball wasn’t a problem today. Hit one to Brown, Carter, threw a good one to a Ezzard and got a PI, underthrew one to Brown but the WR didn’t fight for it at all or we get a PI there too

That issue is on the offensive line as much as Sims.
There have been a couple of corner endzone routes where Brown was behind the defender with open endzone to throw to (not a little window either) and Sims couldn't lay it out there. for him. His underneath and midrange passes seem okay and he's been good when rolling/scrambling out to the right.

He's a true freshman. He's going to lock in on WR's when he shouldn't. He's going to make the wrong throws. He's going to make some boneheaded plays.

I think he's good, just isn't coming in with deep touch which takes away one of our best weapons.

Agreed. I'd actually like to see Gleason getting any garbage time play over Yates.
Yeah I’d like to see what Gleason can do too. There was some hype around him a few weeks ago. I was surprised when Sims won the job.

Something to remember is the OL is still a big work in progress and has a lot of issues. If freshman QBs are expected to make mistakes, can't imagine how much worse it gets with a freshman QB and a leaky OL.

As small as it may seem, we need Dylan Deveney and JPM back for pass pro if these teams are going to keep sending 5-6 at us every down.

If you don't realize that the lack of viable TEs is the problem right now you are a dumbass.

Go back and look at the pick 6 and type this out again. Cleanest pocket we’ve had in years. If the LB hadn’t picked it the CB would have.

Not saying it’s all on Sims, but if you think 10 ints in 3 games is b/c of our TE depth, you are the dumbass.

Sims has made some big plays. He has, as everyone knows, struggled with ball security. That has to be corrected or playing time has to decrease. I do think he has thrown short, underneth routes and screens well. Throws downfield have been very erratic. I would simply play to his strengths, read options and short throws with only occasional deep routes.

I wonder where Graham is in the program right now. I thought he did some good things last year. It seems he is now 3rd or 4th string. Some of our posters had him the next Joe Hamilton. Now, he seems buried, albeit still above the line. Wonder what is going on there?

Whatever.

What I really want to know is this: Are we on our way to setting any CFB records for most blocked field goals allowed in a single season?

I truly believe this is issue #1 with the team right now for 3 reasons:

It takes points off the board that we just worked to get.

Football is a momentum game and these kicks have been totally deflating to a young team like us.

Instead of taking easy points in the second half, we are now being forced to go for it on 4th down quite frequently in scenarios where we otherwise shouldn’t have to.

The kicking game has been very damaging to the season thus far. Extremely bad...possibly worst in history???

In a season where your team is heavily reliant on freshman playmakers...wouldn’t it be nice to have a seasoned kicking game putting up these “automatic” 25 yard field goals? Words cannot express how bad this has been for the team.

My only comment, and it doesn't really change your point, is that there was no conceivable way for our kicking game to be "seasoned" this year. We were facing unknowns no matter what.

What unknowns exactly, when it comes to being able to comfortably kick an XP with some bit of confidence? Not looking for a 53-yarder

They ran the same sideline comeback route on the Pick 6 that they ran about 10 plays earlier. 2nd time Cuse recognized it and dropped the LB into the passing lane. Looked to me like Sims recognized the LB just as he let the ball go and ended up throwing a softball.

So I chalk that one up to play calling.

No, poor protection by the OL caused the first two int

Not the second. It was a blitz from the outside. Sims never looked right. He was locked onto his receiver. Had he looked right he could have stepped up and avoided the TO. Might still be a loss of yards, but not a TO.

Sims could be the next Joe Hamilton. Or the next Reggie Ball. God help us if it’s the latter

If we can never call the same route twice in a game without throwing an interception, that's a bigger problem than play calling.

Lots of good coaches (Saban, Beamer, etc..) focus on special teams when rebuilding a program because it is an area you can fix the first year and maybe win some close games. We are 3 games into season 2 and extra points are a risky proposition.
