Sims 2020 Turnover Total

If we can never call the same route twice in a game without throwing an interception, that's a bigger problem than play calling.
If our playbook is so thin we have to call the same play twice within 10 plays we have a play calling problem.

That's just not true. Plenty of teams call the same play 3 or 4 times in a game. Freidgen used to call them twice in a row. I remember one game Freidgen called the same out route 3 times consecutively just to force the CB to jump it, then called an out and up for a TD.

I'm sure Sims is working as hard as he can to adjust to the speed of the game and broaden the plays he is capable of running efficiently

What unknowns exactly, when it comes to being able to comfortably kick an XP with some bit of confidence? Not looking for a 53-yarder
The kicker was unknown. Was always going to be someone new. Plus the blocking issues from not practicing live kicks with a rush due to covid.

Game 1 fresh out of the gate, ok, sure sounds like a reasonable excuse. 3 games in I would have hoped that we would be a little more reliable on XP attempt than attempting some trickery after the 1st score, being already down 17-0.

Name one other team, at any level of college ball, that has similar woes to us in place kicking due to COVID, freshman kickers, sun spots, CPJ...whatever. I have been gorging on college football for the past 4 weeks and can't think of a single one.

On our current path, we are eventually going to have an extra point returned for a score against us.

Yup. He's going to see the blitz every passing down from now on and if he can't find the hot read/safety valve its not going to be pretty. I'd actually like to see him scramble more than just stand there and let rushers knock the ball out of his hands. He does real well when he's rolled out under pressure.

No.... he wasn't. The fact that he even looked serviceable at times is because he had one of the greatest WR's in history to catch his passes.
Calvin wasn't there year 1 of Reggie

Yeah, it seems obvious: blitz, pressure, give him complex looks up front; defend the short passes so that his check down isn't there and force him to try and beat you deep. He likely will not have time or be quick enough to make the correct read and get the pass off; plus he hasn't shown the ability to throw a great deep ball.

He will need to hit a few deep balls and force the defense to adjust. Also, it would be great if we could get a lead. Playing from behind lets the defense play more aggressive.

Yep, their defense went all out once the got tge 17 pt cushion.

I'm in middle ga and can drive 30 minutes any Friday night and find at least 5 kickers that can kick extra points.

Flipping around to different games any Saturday and no matter the level, you see kickers consistently kicking touchbacks yet we are popping them up to the 30.

Finding a decent kicker shouldn't be hard to do. Many Jr colleges have good kickers that would love to play in the ACC. A recruiter like Collins should be able to have his pick.

It’s mind-boggling that outside of Butker we haven’t had a reliable kicker that could put it in the end zone on demand in years. Of all positions, it seems like kicker would be an easy one to fill at GT.

There are probably several former high school kickers living in frat houses within a quarter mile of the stadium. I know of at least one from my town. Or how about this, can’t we have the holder move back 5 yards to give more room for the kick to get up? I know it’s not normal but in desperate times you gotta do what you gotta do.

Reggie Ball was a good QB. He had a terrible OC.
Thus the similarities between Sims and Ball. I get the feeling that Patenaude got the job because he had a history with Collins, wanted to get a P5 gig, and because no one else wanted to come to Tech until the triple option roster was cleansed.

Just aim 10 inches in front of the ball. Problem solved, problem staying solved
