Slow Progress

More Likely Gone Than Not:
Ayinde Eley
Quez Jackson
Jordan Mason
Adonicas Sanders
Tre Swilling
Charlie Thomas
Juanyeh Thomas
I think several of these will be back. I do expect we have some players transfer out that contribute. That’s just the new landscape.

We have no identity as a team. So basically there’s no one thing we can hang our hat on that we do well week-in and week-out. I thought under Collins our identity would become a good defense that causes “Mayhem.” It just hasn’t happened. We really need to develop an identity. That is what can get us over the hump in these close games. We need something we can rely on when it’s crunch time.

Also, in football you either need to win on the lines of scrimmage or have a good QB to win consistently. We get beat on the LOS and our QB is inconsistent. We have a lot of 3rd down play calls that would get us the first only to see the pass skipped to the target. That’s one reason I’m not as hard on P’node as some. Hell in the NIU game we had multiple receivers running free way downfield that were just plain missed.

Our OLine is why they can't carry this Team
And maybe they need a defense that does not give up over 420 YARDS A GAME! The last seasons in recent memory (other than the last three) where Tech gave up more than 400 yards per game was 2016 and 2014. There is a problem on defense and I don't care who is on the ATL chart

247 talent composite Ranks for GT last 3 seasons.

2019: 45
2020: 34
2021: 33

Talent/FPI ratio for GT last 3 seasons.

2019: 0.52
2020: 0.37
2021: 0.40

The clear indication from this ratio metric is that Collins is coaching our team down.
So I agree with your subsequent post about mediocrity.
Collins is wasting about half to 2/3 of our team talent .
Even if by 5th or 10th year Collins could get us to 20th in talent,
This ratio metric shows we'd still be 30th to 40th in performance.
That isn't what he's getting paid for.
I don't think anything less than 6-6 and top 50 ranking would be acceptable for 2021.
I always want Tech to win but don't think it will ever happen with this coach..
Ratio of ranks does not make sense, but thanks for sharing the talent ranks. There is also something to be said for needing to weigh talent ranks for classes or starters.

So if the good players are only in their first and second years, that makes a difference?

Holy crap. Why hasn’t someone said this?!?!?!

Your math is way off:

2019: 45 / 110 = 0.40
2020: 34 / 90 = 0.38
2021: 33 / 62 = 0.53

But as @cyptomcat says this isn’t a really useful metric to evaluate. But using your information, we are doing better.

Nah, .01 isn't way off but proves that i did copy and paste instead of rounding up (while swapping 19/21)
the metric certainly isn't precise but i think it's useful since being way way below 1.0 demonstrates a coaching problem.
(and highlights the difference between our teams coaching skill and recruiting skill)
the slight uptrend that you correctly noted sure isn't enough to convince me that we on a path to ever rise above mediocrity.
Look at how long it would take to ever rise substantially above 1.0

It only takes one season to get to 1.0 since the calculation is not influenced by previous seasons. You finish 25th with 25th best talent, you are at 1.0.

Not exactly
performance metrics are calculated independently yr/yr but there's some little carryover since the SA's usually stay 3-4 yrs.
team talent composite is not independent yr/yr. there is much carryover since about 1/4 of a roster turns over each year.
I can't see a performance ranking rise so rapidly as you suggest without positive impact from both talent and coaching.

And your point is? Good coaches find a way to let their playmakers make plays. We are not doing that. Gibbs is easily in the Top 5 most talented offensive players I have ever seen at GT. He had -10 yards in the Pitt game. He is frequently not even on the field in crucial situations.

Coaching. We’ve got a staff that is still trying to figure things out, and it shows.
He managed to recruit ONE QB who could beat UGAg. Otherwise, nothing

So, we chase off all the dissatisfied fans, and the 25 people left sit together on the front row on the 50 yard line and yell, "Money Down!" Might be fun.
Attendence was the worst we have ever had since Heisman in 2020.

Trying to find a thread that you haven’t douched up but there aren’t any.
Have you tried clicking on my name and clicking the "ignore" button? Try that.
Here is an SOP
1) click on JJacket's name
2) click ignore
3) you never have to worry about seeing one of my posts again, ever. Bye.

Maybe I’m missing something? If your your FPI is 35 and your talent ranking is 35, that’s a 1.0, right?
