So … I Wonder If The Head Coach Was Already Selected …

Eh. My reading of the situation is that everyone was probably on board with Chadwell, but Key's win has led to a renewed push for Key among some influencers. I don't anything is official.

I think Chadwell is the popular choice. However; while I think Chadwell has a much higher ceiling than Key does, just not sure about him. I am leery on his lack of P5 experience. Coaching in a FBS non power 5 school is much different. We made this error with Collins. So, my red alert light is blinking.

I think it is about 50-50 that the decision was made before that game and only a non-fruitful negotiation could change that.

But of course not sure.

Has anyone considered that Chadwell likely has a choice of 2-3 programs after him. I'm thinking specifically of Nebraska and Auburn along with Tech and maybe one or two more. I just don't know. We could certainly do much worse than Chadwell... at least he has a clear offensive identity.

We made this error with Collins.
That's not the error we made with Collins at all. Temple was built up by Rhule (two consecutive 10-win seasons when he left for Baylor), Collins only had the job for 2 years and had a 7-win and 8-win season. We all knew that.

He got the job because of his excellent recruiting track record, local roots, and business plan to brand GT with the largest city in the southeast and proverbial capital of college football.

Yeah, the two years at Temple just checked the box of "head coaching experience" but he straight up sold himself for the job to TStan. Collins didn't fit the mold of "up and coming" group of 5 head coach at all, really.

This is one of those.... "What would you do if I told you..." questions.

I effing hate those questions. They are completely useless.

My sources tell me a decision has either been made or has not been made. Hard to say with certainty but something is definitely in the works. Announcement sooner or later is guaranteed. Lots of moving pieces so dark horse may emerge. But don't worry, we will be getting the best.

Chadwell wants to stay in the southeast; he’d probably be plan D for Auburn. They are going to pay big bucks to a big name

Yes, but along the way Stan forgot to hire a guy who could win football games.

Agree that he wasn’t a G5 anything other than placeholder. GC was sold as a recruiter, marketer, and top shelf SEC coordinator.

I want to hire Key at a discount and spend extra money on new staff. I don’t think Key’s ceiling is lower than Chadwell if we do this. One of the main reasons ACC sucks overall is lack of spending on coordinators compared to SEC or Big10. Hire an all star coaching staff with Key at the helm. This will be a sure way to success and less risk than hiring a G5 coaching staff with “innovative” offense.
