So … I Wonder If The Head Coach Was Already Selected …

My sources tell me a decision has either been made or has not been made. Hard to say with certainty but something is definitely in the works. Announcement sooner or later is guaranteed. Lots of moving pieces so dark horse may emerge. But don't worry, we will be getting the best.
Cool—I’m hearing the same thing. We must have the same sources.

I think Chadwell is the popular choice. However; while I think Chadwell has a much higher ceiling than Key does, just not sure about him. I am leery on his lack of P5 experience. Coaching in a FBS non power 5 school is much different. We made this error with Collins. So, my red alert light is blinking.
Collins had 2 years as a HC and they were both noticeably worse than the 2 years prior at Temple and nothing to write home about. Chadwell on the other hand, has been a HC over 10 years, and has 5 double digit win seasons in the last 10, across 3 different teams, and is about to have a 6th. Really no similarity outside of having both been G5 coaches, which means nothing on its own.

I want to hire Key at a discount and spend extra money on new staff. I don’t think Key’s ceiling is lower than Chadwell if we do this. One of the main reasons ACC sucks overall is lack of spending on coordinators compared to SEC or Big10. Hire an all star coaching staff with Key at the helm. This will be a sure way to success and less risk than hiring a G5 coaching staff with “innovative” offense.

This……I’m on this train…..give Key the resources. but hearing from some CCU contacts it’s Chadwell. Not confirmed, but pretty strong rumors.

This is my thinking, too, but who knows what Batt thinks? He did come from Bama where Saban is really the CEO who applies discipline in the organization and holds his top-shelf coordinators accountable. Anyone else even notice how much Key talks about accountability? Both O'Leary and Saban did that, too.

It’s going to be Brent Key, seems pretty obvious to me.

Thanks for a definitive analysis! Hate to see you go out on a limb like this :)

PS this situation reminds me a lot like Mac after O'Leary left and we all wanted him but we got Gailey instead. I see a repeat.

You figure if Key is the choice then he would be named Monday. Same when a coach currently out of work. There are a couple of those on the long list.

If it is Chadwell do they make it official Monday or wait until the next week?

I’m calling bullshit. This is the complete opposite of what I’m hearing from my sources. my sources told me that a decision has not been made, unless it has been made. Announcement to come later or sooner.

You are probably being sarcastic; but those were indeed bigger names than Chadwell when Auburn hired them for the HC job.
Me? Sarcastic?
Yes, they were somewhat bigger in that they were all a bit more well-known than Chadwell, except maybe Chizik, but they weren't big names in the sense of Brian Kelly, Mack Brown, Lane Kiffin, etc. moving around.

Why would you wait if your decision is made? New coach needs to hit the ground running recruiting and identifying staff.

If it is Key I would expect the announcement on 11/28. Because coaching contracts often have a prior approval clause (must notify their athletic department of their intent to interview) many candidates currently coaching cannot formally interview until next week (end of the regular season).

Every day past Monday no announcement is made tips the scales to it being more likely we are looking at another candidate.

Exactly - Plan D guys.
Chizik followed Tubberville, right? That was after their Pres' and AD's Bobby Petrino rope-a-dope failed. That job was radioactive after all that. Chizik might have been Plan D. However, both Malzahn (Iowa State) and Harsin (Boise State) seem like pretty much A-list guys for them.
