I bet I know somebody who hasn't forgotten...And don’t forget the transfer portal opens Dec 5.

Brian Kelly had no problem leaving for LSU before Notre Dame's bowl game.Chadwell has a conference champ game the next week. I’m asking if people think that matters or affects the timing.
It gives Coastal a chance to begin their coaching search too.I don’t see why that matters. You could announce him as head coach and he could still coach that game. It’s best for our player/recruits and their players/recruits to know sooner rather than later.
Despite the lovefest for key on this board, why do you assume that he’ll get an interview or that he is a candidate?Key hasn’t interviewed yet. Jason isn’t going to already have an agreement with someone else and just give Key a token interview. Some of you guys are legit retards.
Sez who?He will have a formal sit down interview after the season is over.
Because Jason isn’t a ööööing retard and realizes a significant portion of the big check writers actually like Key and to not even interview him after his performance this season would be a slap in the faceDespite the lovefest for key on this board, why do you assume that he’ll get an interview or that he is a candidate?
So string him along to satisfy the donors, and piss them off even more when you don’t hire him? Batt’s career depends on this decision, he’s cleaning house and starting over. Key is not part of the equation and never was.Because Jason isn’t a ööööing retard and realizes a significant portion of the big check writers actually like Key and to not even interview him after his performance this season would be a slap in the face

Or from Cincy to Notre DameBrian Kelly had no problem leaving for LSU before Notre Dame's bowl game.
No, if he’s named he has to start recruiting IMMEDIATELY, not only HS players but our players and others look at the portal. The portal opens Dec 5th so he has to have every second to sell the current players he wants to stay.Chadwell has a conference champ game the next week. I want to hire Key at a discount and spend extra money on new staff. I don’t think Key’s ceiling is lower than Chadwell if we do this. One of the main reasons ACC sucks overall is lack of spending on coordinators compared to SEC or Big10. Hire an all star coaching staff with Key at the helm. This will be a sure way to success and less risk than hiring a G5 coaching staff with “innovative” offense.
Brent is a loyal guy, he hasn’t shown that he can cut ties with anyone. That being said, he’ll probably keep Chip and the gang on offense, which is easily one of the worst in the NCAA. It’s not a bad thing with the defense, but man, it’s been a pain watching this offense. This this this.
We can save $$$ with Key and give him a short-leash contract loaded with winning incentives. For the first time in a while, Tech could be in the position of strength at the negotiating table. And if it doesn't work out, we pull the plug in 2024 without paying a giant buyout. Take our time finding the right one while finally having a contract that doesn't incentivize losing in the interrim.
Spend the money on an elite staff.
Brent has already shown leadership and a willingness to adjust. His players are playing hard for him. He can be our Dabo if we play this right. If we go to the market, I feel like there's a strong, strong risk that we overpay for another unproven and we have to guarantee chunks of money to get them here, and then more to keep Auburn from hiring them in 2 years if they DO work out.
Collins was not successful at the G5 level, so the comparison really isn't relevant. We selected a non P5 coach in Johnson and it worked spectacularly so I definitely am more in the Chadwell camp.
This x1000.This this this.

Key will allow Tech to do this the right way, on a shoestring budget, instead of hiring an overpriced established or "up and coming" coach," having to hire assistants on the cheap, and then watching as that coach is either fired in 4 years or walks out the door in 5 for a bigger job. It makes way too much sense, so they won't do it, but let me float along in my delusion a bit longer, please.
If Key gets the job, fine and I’ll support him. I want the best coach for the best deal.I guess punting from the opponents 40 for a touchback also makes too much sense and that's why most other coaches don't do it. You are indeed in a delusional state if you think Key is some perfect hire just waiting for us to grab. He could end up a decent coach, but he has shown some flaws along with some promise and has a ton of unknowns for different aspects of being a head coach.
There's this talk of spending more on a coaching staff (which negates the idea of a shoestring budget, you're just spreading the cost out), but who is going to find this all-star staff? Normally it would be Key, but he has never built a staff before and maybe has never had to really hire an assistant coach in his life (maybe that 1 year as OC)?
And if it really ends up being donors and the old boys club that gets Key retained as coach, it would be a really bad sign for the future.
Yeah I'm not really anti-Key at this point, I'm anti-"Key is a no brainer".If Key gets the job, fine and I’ll support him. I want the best coach for the best deal.
If we pay Key an exorbitant amount of money with a stupid buyout, I’ll be pissed.
But it would be awful nice to not have this Tech Man bullshit going on with donors.
I don't think identifying an all-star staff will be at all difficult for anyone that follows college football. Negotiating their contracts is a different story, but Batt will certainly be part of that process. If we plan on just hiring a big name coach and not giving him the money to hire a really good staff, we are dumber than I thought even after TFG and the last staff. There's this talk of spending more on a coaching staff (which negates the idea of a shoestring budget, you're just spreading the cost out), but who is going to find this all-star staff?
