Sources say CPJ could step aside after this season?

Oh I completely agree that CPJ is guilty of raising the bar by which he is judged to a very high level. But if Dabo or Saban or Urban go 3-9 this year followed by 5-7, don't you thing the natives would get restless--even if it were just a tiny bit?
Hell yes, and they should. My only point is that CPJ would have probably been fired after 2015 and would definitely have been fired after 2017 if not for 2014, 2009, and to a lesser degree 2016 and 2008. Ups and downs are better (IMO) than consistent mediocrity, because at least you can point to the highs as a realistic possibility if you can identify and repeat what got you there.

I have been a big PJ fan even before he was at GT, so obviously I like him and want him to stay. But if we miss a bowl again, I think it's time. That said, I expect 8-9 wins minimum and think this will be a dead discussion by season's end.

Who’s the single best coach in college football? What would his record be at Tech?

IMO Nick Saban would be at GT what he was at Michigan State. A 7-9 game winner who is solid but not spectacular.

Urban Meyer would probably be a bit better than CPJ is due to improved recruiting and similar X & O ability, but we'd have to take the player arrests and moral deterioration of the program along with that.

Dabo Swinney is a great coach but just a bad fit for GT. Unless he lucked into great coordinators, he'd be a 6/7 win guy because I just don't see the uptick in recruiting being enough.

the anger that it generates is puzzling. If they are so secure in their belief in CPJ, why so much angst at those who don't share it?
I think the anger is primarily at your mischaracterization of their beliefs. Ain’t nobody on this board is gonna want to keep CPJ is we have two more losing seasons. You’ve already said you don’t want him fired right now. So what exactly are you arguing about?

He is an alpha who can’t stand the thought that someone would be more miserable than he is.

Saban and Urban, or any elite coach would never even think about coming here unless they could get the Hill to lessen academic restrictions to improve recruiting, similar to the way they did when Ross was here.

That's pretty much all you focus on by starting threads like this (which are made up "rumors" to being w/). While it's silly to be positive all of the time, it really is ok not to be miserable nearly 100% of the time. Otherwise, what's the point of following GT if it just makes you miserable?
Dude, this was something from ESPN, you know the largest sports network in the world... so go **** a duck if you think it's not a topic of discussion here! Posting something from ESPN is not just starting negative rumor thread. Maybe you are just too ****ing sensitive?

So set the record straight... You don't want CPJ fired now. You're not happy with our post 2014 results on balance. You'll want a new coach if this continues.

Join the club.

Now have some hope and enthusiasm. A new season begins in four days. There'll be plenty of time later to complain about CPJ if this season stinks.

question - are you a GT alum?

Sadly, rightfully so, but PJ has 2 seasons to prove himself.

You stated before that you want GT to graduate players and no one since Dodd has done that as well as CPJ. Yet, when any thread bashing the coach or team is posted, you can be counted on to have chimed in with a snide remark that doesn't hold much merit.

You also seem to think that because UVA and Dook stunk for big chunks of the last 20 years, that it will continue to be so. Both of those teams have made good coaching hires. Cutcliffe may be a jerk, but he's a good coach--this isn't Carl Franks or Ted Roof coaching Dook. Even with that, GT isn't unable to "play with the lesser teams in the league," and have more wins than losses against those teams. Do you really think that anyone enjoys GT losing, much less to one of those teams? The difference is not everyone feels the need to moan on a message board about it.

Last season was a bigger letdown than the injury wrecked '15 season. If CPJ doesn't have a better won/loss record this season, he'll rightfully be on the hotseat.

Is that right, tell us more.

Since you don't attend games or contribute to the program financially, what does it matter? I know that you and @TampaBayJacket @RamblinWreck92 @Yukonwreck enjoy being miserable, but cherry picking one year where everything went wrong with a large # of injuries and sandwiched between a great season in '14 and a very good one in '16 is just you being an ass.

Do you know this as fact? If so it figures.

The Hill and President would have to cry uncle, and I don’t see that happening.
