One of the first things our new AD needs to do is fix the field. The pellets on artificial turf are called crumb rubber. Black crumb is almost exclusively used on all artificial turf. You can't see it until it is kicked up as it actually blends into the green turf. My guess is our previous numb skull got a cut rate date on brown or red crumb, probably intended for a kid's playground or a cut rate deal as the first to try the red or brown crap. I would prefer we prioritize football in lieu of concerts and soccer and get back to grass, but if we have to have turf - buy like we have some sense, have some pride and fix the field.

If I am remembering correctly it is made of coconut husk. But maybe I dreamed it and don't feel like researching crumb rubber.

Yeah forget that whole finding a new coach thing. Let’s worry about the field.

If they tear it out, I will personally drive down once a week, if needed, with the Cub Cadet and mow the grass with the only pay being my four ST's in the cheap seats and 4 hot dogs and 4 Cokes per game.

I really don't know how Tech can't take this deal.

The idea was to put in an artificial surface so that BDS could host more outside events to increase rental revenue. COVID kinda screwed that up. I really don't care about the surface and if we can host an additional 6-8 events a year there to raise some money it is worth it.

The AA isn't in a position where they can just toss money around on a bunch of vanity "but I like this better" projects.

That stuff will melt your shoes in August.
Remember CPJ saying he had never experienced anything like Tulane's artificial turf. We opened that stadium for them. CPJ said that players were complaining about their feet burning.

We can host soccer on grass. Concerts can go to MB or GSU.

The coconut stuff is supposed to be cooler. That wasn't the point. Tell the Coconut company selling it to either color it green or black or they don't get the contract. It's the appearance that is pitiful.

That game was hot as balls. The local newspaper put bagged commemorative papers on every seat, and the bags partially melted and transferred the print from the bags to the bleachers.

I remember players’ shoes melting (the glue between the sole and the shoe) on the BDS turf against NC State in 1990.

Yeah. The bleachers were also painted green and that was coming off on everyone's shorts. The concessions were also a mess.

Even as miserable as those aspects were, I'd love to play those guys on a regular basis. Tailgating on Bourbon St. was fun.

Fake news. Our turf was widely considered "state of the art" and the best available as far as performance is concerned, (emulating real grass) when it was installed. It was not "economy budget" by any stretch of the imagination. I agree as far as "looks" go, it's not pretty in person, and even more so on video broadcast. I was disappointed when we decided to ditch our fantastic natural turf and switch to an artificial surface. I understood why TS made the decision, I didn't agree with it, but he did have a case that was not without merit. If the new guy wants to start a capital campaign to switch back to natural, I will gladly donate.

1) our grass field was beautiful before 2018, Obviously that is our ideal.

2) The field never looked worse than the last year of grass when we lost our grass guy to Bama. What level of incompetence can't replace a grounds guy?

3) I guess I need to watch a game on TV, because in real life it looks fine.
