Stansbury - Brown Field Is Embarrassment

I’m curious as to whether the field dropped off because we no longer knew how to take care of it, or whether we just said “screw it, we’re ripping it up after the season anyway.” Was there a similar drop off for the baseball and softball fields?

I’m no Ed Mangum, but I do know one thing…a bad playing surface for baseball/softball will chase players away and/or prevent them from coming. Who the heck wants to get face mashed by a bad hop routine ground ball?

Turf today, turf tomorrow. Take some pride in your turf you ungrateful twats. oh no my fake grass doesnt look like real grass oh no oh no

This gets dumber every time someone posts about it.

Why are you so mad at everyone these days? We're finally winning!

I'm not the one bitching about stupid öööö when we're winning. I'm not angry at all, I am enjoying it more than some people here seem to be.

It’s the nature of these forums. People love to come on here to complain about things. They loved to complain about the coach (now he’s gone) the way the team was playing (now they are playing better). There will be plenty more to complain about but right now the easiest target is the field.

They can stay mad or chill out but the turf isn't going anywhere. Nor should it.

I think this is a little unfair. It's not like no one noticed or cared about the field until they were looking for the next thing to complain about.

People definitely talked about how they loved the grass field back when we had it -- hell, it was so nice it literally won awards, and we had threads on that. I personally was really thankful we had switched away from turf and it came to mind not infrequently.

And people were upset from the beginning of the switch back to turf, not just after we started losing a lot or after we got rid of CGC/TS.

If they had loved their grass so much, it never would have left. I love our turf more than your mom loves my pylon and it isn't going anywhere.

This is what every fan says a week before his turf goes out to get cigarettes

I'm not a fan of artificial turf, but that's what we have. I do wonder about the brown patches. I assume they are where the coconut hull beads gather heavier in one area. They are certainly moved around by rain, wind, and field use. Seems to me that there is some Zamboni type of rake that you're supposed to use to keep these little beads spread out and even (I think I remember hearing about one anyway). I wonder if we are using it at all, improperly, or not enough. Or maybe I made it up and it doesn't exist. If it doesn't exist, one of you smart SOBs design one, patent it, and make a fortune with it. I do expect a not-insignificant honorarium.

That, and coconut husks rot.
