Stephen Hill just declared for the NFL draft.

Of course there are more complete WR's, but there aren't a lot more with better pure athletic ability.

Put him with some good coaching and he can correct his fundamental flaws and blossom in the NFL

Arkansas has 3 coming out all by themselves. There are 120 other teams. This guy would be lucky to be in the top 30 WRs coming out but all he needs is one stupid team to draft him too high.

Did anyone read the AJC article?????

"(Players receive one of five evaluations from the advisory board. There is one lower than Hill’s, that the player does not have the potential to be drafted.)"

That makes it seem as bad as bad can get. This isn't the 2-3 round range some are speculating. I'd put this at a 5-6 round range and I don't think even a strong combine will put him past more productive receivers to get him to round 2 or 3.

If you are not going to be drafted in the first three rounds, and you still have a year of eligibility, why does it make sense to leave early when you can increase your draft stock for one more year?

The best answer is probably that he thinks competing for a job in the NFL will pay some money, and it will be easier than being a student. In a year, he hopes to have a year of working out with an NFL team, and can try to get established as a player somewhere. Of course, another year at Tech could result in an eventual signing bonus which could go a long way to providing financial security. And, fighting for a job in the NFL is probably harder work and more stressful than being a student. I don't think any of these kids really weigh the risk and benefit of their decision much, because they've never experienced failure as an athlete.

Sounds like we have a litter full of kids who are clashing with Paul Johnson. Happened last year. Happening this year. CPJ better fix this ---- because its VERY TELLING.

O'Leary had a couple of these early in his career in Elliot Fortune and CJ Williams so I'm not necessarily too upset about this current "trend", but those guys were not recruited by O'Leary. Hill WAS recruited by PJ.

BOR is covering his bases nicely as of late with excellently crafted posts like this. Look how this post allows BOR to be right whether PJ bombs and gets fired or wins the national championship! Either way, BOR told you so! VERY TELLING!

CPJ needs to be a little tougher on these brats...nobody should be able to leave unless he tells them to get lost.

From an investment standpoint, this was a big mistake made by Stephen Hill.

Had he stayed and put up redonkulous numbers his senior year (which is very possible in this offense) he could have been a day 1 pick.

I think he left because he has a kid/kids and doesn't like Paul Johnson. Someone said last year that if he had any chance at entering the draft this year, he was gone.

Not surprised.

Good luck on the bad investment decision. I'll root for him though.

Stephen Hill will be catching balls off a net in the Arena League for $250/week in a couple of years. This is a silly decision by this kid. I agree that grades has to play into this somehow. Didn't he learn any lessons from Tarrant and Claytor?

Which evaluations are those? I'm genuinely curious. If that's true, then he would be stupid not to go. Problem is I doubt that's true. I'm glad Hill has contributed so much, but his contributions and Calvin's and Bebe's are night and day.

Edit: I'm an idiot. Turns out three letters like "not" can be very important for reading comprehension.

It's worse than you think. These evaluations are historically incredibly rosy. As in "projecting 70 players to be picked in the first round" rosy. If his evals didn't have him going in the first three rounds, I'd interpret that they don't see him going in the first 6 rounds. Think "undrafted free agent" as a likely option. Or maybe not even that.

Which worked out OK for James Harrison, but not for most people.

Everyone needs to just shut the F up and wish the young man the best. He is doing what he think is best for him. God know our passing attack isn't going to help him expand his talent.

He's not doing what he thinks is best for him. What is best for him is if he worked a little harder in the classroom and worked a little harder on the field catching passes.

His problem is he wants the easy path. He rather quit and hope for a miracle payday because he can't work anymore. He put in his minimum three years and now he wants to get paid for achieving WHAT exactly? Nadda.

This is a microcosm of what is ----ing wrong with this country. Hill feels because he came to GT behind Calvin and Bebe that he is somehow entitled to the same things they received yet he hasn't put in the work. THAT simple.

that doesn't work when there's a big dropoff of talent from 1st to 2nd string. good thing is at certain positions the talent is mediocre all around, so you can tell them to get lost.

Everybody loses kids early now, we only get fired up because we don't pay attention to other schools. Right now every athlete who puts up any numbers at all thinks he's ready. I hope he doesn't bomb out, but wouldn't surprise me if he either doesn't get drafted or doesn't stick unless he does a lot of work. Also people keep talking about blowing up the combine. But you have to be invited there right?

GEHJ, the Sherlock Holmes of Stingtalk.

Wow. I get home from work and I see this? Awesome. What the hell is going on in the locker room?

I am not worried about him leaving at all like I was with bay bay. This will not hurt us at all and I do wish him well.
