Tennessee 2017

I sat next to a 60yo and an 80yo Tennessee fan at the GT Wake game in 09. They drove to Atlanta to watch option football because they were old fans of the system.

Sorta neat.
That's awesome. My dad's side of the family are Tennessee folks and everyone up there loves the Vols. In my experience they know their football and don't have the same percentage of garbage fans as other SEC schools tend to. The average Georgia fan couldn't tell you whether they had a decent squad or not in a given year before the previous two or three seasons but UT fans can typically give you a good game summary of random match-ups from back in the 70's and 80's.

I was at most of the GT v TN games in the big 80s. Those were all fantastic games and I thought the Tennessee fans were good sports and it was almost like they still thought of us with some ex-SEC respect. I always enjoyed playing TN and speaking for myself, I'm very happy to see the Vols back on our schedule. If nothing else, they hate the dwags almost as much as we do.

I just love how freaked out some of them are over cut blocks. One thinks the NCAA needs to look into it.

And yet those same people probably love a bone crushing tackle on a RB, QB, WR, or KR.

Nope. The Dome is a gonner after the Falcon's season. It is the reason why Atlanta United will be playing its first games at GT. New stadium won't be ready for spring.

They're still doing two rounds of MonsterJam per billboard I saw this evening, FWIW.

The Tennessee fans seem to have already bitten hard on the cut blocks. Readying their excuse for a loss. "We lost because of CUT BLOCKS WHAAAAAHHHH!!!!!"

We are going to be the bitter effigy they burn for their whole 5 win season. It's sweet.

It's kinda interesting. You almost never see an OOC opponent with whom you have 4 shared opponents. So we have a lot of data points to compare Tennessee and GT's programs.

The VT outcomes were similar, and for similar reasons.
The Georgia outcomes were similar.
The Kentucky outcomes were similar.

We smashed Vandy and they lost to Vandy. That's really the only difference. And we ended with the same record.

GT and Tennessee on paper this year were pretty comparable teams.

Except they were the Champions of Life and we weren't.

I really hope we can just build off a prior season. It seems we dont have an issue building off a certain win within a season to springboard such as the VT game this year. We just cant seem take take momentum from one year and carry it to next year. I want two 9 win seasons back to back. I said before this season we needed 9 wins for me personally to consider this a success. Got it! Now do it again. Its the only way to keep momentum recruiting.

Back to TN, I like UT. They hate UGA. I hate UGA. Simpatico. They have a ton ton if talent but they are all a bit entitled mostly because Butch comes off that way. They wont like our offense and are capable of folding like a cheap lawn chair. We are also inconsistent year to year and I dont think I have seen us play in a game with the attention this game will get opening game. Going to be tough. I think Butch is a bad coach in game. PJ is deginitely better.

We ded.

Also, there are multiple posters calling this year's team "team 120" and next year's as "team 121" all when referring to themselves.

I was trying to figure what that meant. Wiki says they started football in 1891. If they played every year, that's 125. Anyone know? Is that a UT thing, to call it 'team 120' instead of the '16 team?

Yes, it is a thing for them and they do it brick by brick because they are building champions of life (stringing a couple of Butch-isms in there)

I don't know if their backup got any PT at all this year. So they are going into next year with an unproven commodity at QB.
Barnett is a huge loss for them. Malone will be too but not like Barnett. I think some folks are really excited about the Kongbo kid they have, IIRC.
