This.

100%. At this point that’s all you can hope for. Fingers crossed these weren’t blindside type of exits, and the staff now can shift the focus from 2025 HS recruiting to Portal recruiting.
GT has a lot offer a high level transfer (Degree, location, NIL collective).
The sport needs 1,2,3,4 binding contracts by the SA and school. That’s the only way this mess will stabalize.
As 247 had on their home page Sunday before the Portal officially opened, “per a P4 staffer, this is going to be an ish show…”
Hedge funds are already conjuring up schemes to buy college teams.Surely this guy has some time in the off season to mentor our AD on contracts and finding the biggest bang for the buck.

College football is now MLB. How long before some sort of trade system is worked out on players? Which ATL area High Schools are going to be the College Football Minors? I expect some HS would jump at the chance if we pay their coaches salaries and provide equipment and physical therapy. Expect Junior Colleges to become the minors. I like our chances once the game become business statistics and player development rather than recruiting 17 year old prima donnas. Take the money we are spending on facilities, and spend it on NIL. They will play on asphalt and dress in a broom closet if the money is right.
Not positive but I think the portal closes 12-28 I would guess if they are in you can sign them. I would check Ole Miss I’m sure if you can sign them they startedIs there a specific date when portal "recruits" can sign, or can that already be going on now?
I don’t agree with this. On the offense the quarterback is the most valuable as he handles the ball the most. The skill positions are next as they handle the ball somewhat less. Then comes the entire line as they block as a team. If they don’t work as a team or have one weak link on the line the importance of the entire line is diminished. If he is going to get $2 million elsewhere I feel way better about him leaving. That has to be an overstatement - the QB Michigan stole from LSU only got $3M. Alabama has an all-world WR - why aren't they in the playoff?
I agree with coach - the positions get more important the closer you get to the ball. WRs can take off plays when they are going to the other way.
The QB, OL, and TE cannot so that is 7 positions more important on offense.
I have a feeling the market on this will cool over time.So as of Monday I am sure its more by this point today there was 1537 kids in the Transfer portal and there is a 134 FBS schools that's alone is like on average 11 Kids a football program. 2024 total Transfer #s was like 3800 total between Spring and Fall. Its just not sustainable in its current atmosphere to continue doing this year after year.... Money will continue to blow up on top of all the team consistency issues. Definitely need some sorta asserted wrangling in on the NIL/Transfer Portal it needs guard rails BAD!!!!
I'm not sure what I just watched/listened to:
People have been saying that for years though. The Phil Knight example may be a more likely scenario of changing, but it doesn't seem like most people are going to cut back any time soon.I have a feeling the market on this will cool over time.
Every booster that has a large amount of money and has wanted his team to be the best is throwing money at players in hopes of a National Championship. At some point though those guys are going to realize they are just throwing money down a hole. I mean how many seasons can Ole Miss boosters sustain the level of payroll while still being left out in the cold come Championship time?
Phil Knight has basically said he is willing to pay whatever it takes for Oregon to win a NC. How much appetite will he have for a 2nd or 3rd one if they finally win one.
I think we are seeing a bubble in NIL because there was so much pent up demand for buying winning football seasons from the guys who at one time were buying new gyms and locker rooms for players. Everyone is trying to strike while the iron is hot.
We are only on like year 5 of NIL. The first couple of years everyone was just beginning to get their shit together.People have been saying that for years though. The Phil Knight example may be a more likely scenario of changing, but it doesn't seem like most people are going to cut back any time soon.
I just spoke to a HS coach friend of mine, and he told me that nothing is "official" until the player in question actually enrolls in the school of his choice. So, to use Singleton as an example, he is not committed to any school until he enrolls there, which would be the first week in January, I guess. Not positive but I think the portal closes 12-28 I would guess if they are in you can sign them. Someone can buy almost the entire Marshall team, they may not have enough players for their bowlSo as of Monday I am sure its more by this point today there was 1537 kids in the Transfer portal and there is a 134 FBS schools that's alone is like on average 11 Kids a football program. 2024 total Transfer #s was like 3800 total between Spring and Fall. Correct. He can "commit" somewhere but doesnt have to sign any paperwork until he enrolls, which can be done any day up to the last day to add/drop classes at that school. I dont like this either because schools with different/later academic calendars have longer to get kids in for the spring. All schools should be on the same schedule for when semesters start and end in my opinionI just spoke to a HS coach friend of mine, and he told me that nothing is "official" until the player in question actually enrolls in the school of his choice. two ways of looking at that thoughI don’t agree with this. On the offense the quarterback is the most valuable as he handles the ball the most. Funny you mention that. Cignetti pretty much brought a vast majority of his starters from James Madison to IU. Then he added Rourke from the Portal, etc.Someone can buy almost the entire Marshall team, they may not have enough players for their bowl
Those are two pretty big differences. This guy and Singleton are basically the same player except Tuggle probably has worse hands and not quite the top end speed.
I’m guessing that Indiana will get exposed as a paper tiger and will get steamrolled by Notre Dame in their first game of the playoffs.Funny you mention that. Cignetti pretty much brought a vast majority of his starters from James Madison to IU. Then he added Rourke from the Portal, etc.
This is a huge hiring incentive now for schools. Might as well bring with you what got you (formerly coaches, but now SA’s) there in the first place. Now will most schools come close to the success Cignetti has achieved in year 1 at IU? Heck no.
8 wins in a transition year would have been great. Making the CFP is amazing.
