Transfer Rankings

Yea. Ideally we could develop players we recruit into good players. Maybe those days are gone with the transfer portal.

Will there ever be guys that redshirt, don’t play as rFR, play STs and mop up as a sophomore, then grow into great players for their JR/SR year?

Seems like that model is gone. Players feel like they have to play right away. And coaches have no qualms just to recruit over you with the portal anyway. So why wait around?
Our only hope is to convince them the GT degree is worth staying with us if they are closing in on a degree after two or three years.

We would have had much worse seasons in the past 3 years without the OL transfers.
Now this is an assumption that we will never know the answer to because those transfers werent mashing any defenses.

Higher profile transfers get re-rated by 247 when they transfer. Most of the guys we pull in that our fans tout as elite 4/5 star recruits are re-ranked as 3 stars by the time they show up. I don’t think we’ve ever had a 4 star transfer come in. Gibbs and Braun were rated as 4 stars when transferring out.
Gibbs was a 4 when we signed him. Calvin was a 4 way back when depending (they missed that one).... Not sure what Braun was OOHS

Are you serious? How much worse can it be? Besides, OL transfers are hit and miss. Especially since, YES, you can plug one in but OL's are a unit and that's how they get better. Not transferring but coming in and getting to work building a line with the recruits you came in with

Aren't we still looking for another OT transfer?

Absolutely. When Minihan went down his backup struggled. Now imagine backups at LR and RG. We had 2 transfers that would have played but were hurt all year unfortunately

2019 is how much worse it can be. A roster that could not overmatch or out-finesse the mighty Citadel and forced coaching to actually matter in a ööööing FCS buy game.

We were much bigger/faster than Citadel. Sometimes the coaches have to put players in a position to succeed — we didn’t do that. And when you don’t, you end up looking like a ööööing moron (something we’ve done multiple times in 3 years)
- We told our kids to work on celebrations when we had big tackles, we told them to taunt the other team. We got 5 15 yard penalties, including several that extended drives. That hurt us because our coaches are ööööing idiots
- our defensive strategy was to have our DBs turn their backs to their wrs and draw block in the back penalties. Then complain when we didn’t get calls. Great ööööing scheme.
- our coach was clueless of the clock rules at the end of the game. And then publically complained that what was said over the PA wasn’t enforced

Yeah, the conversation was about OL transfers so the context was about the offense. Your only response here related to that is the blunder at the end of the game which I covered in the point about coaching having to matter because the offense was so bad all game and all season for that matter. We didn't have a real quarterback and the blocking was awful.

As for the defense since you brought it up, it continued its futility from the previous year with a similar FEI

And didn’t the defense have some kind of turnover trinket they passed around, like Miami’s gold chain necklace? At least “The U” was smart enough to finally get rid of that - hope we do similar with ours and excess celebrations. Maybe do like my coaches always told me - “Act like you’ve been there before”

I don't think we get the talent you think we do. Good players, they just aren't anywhere on the comparable scale to the 4 and 5 stars.
