This guy reminds me of Yates in a lot of ways, but with better size and a quicker release. So, we upgraded our backup. This makes me feel better about the games Sims is out for injury.
This guy is getting compared to Lamar Jackson. I wouldn’t exactly compare him to Yates.

I came here to post this.

When Clemson’s offense struggled this past year, he got a few shots to take over. He had very Yates-like performances in those games, and just wasn’t able to sustain drives. He didn’t turn it over as much as DJ, but that’s partially because he barely threw the ball. He’s probably faster and definitely bigger than Yates, but a Lamar Jackson comparison is laughable. Maybe that was out of high school?

You mean the brain that would take big sacks instead of throwing the ball away?
He threw it away plenty. His three most likely results were:
Run backwards and throw away
Run backwards and take huge sack
3 yard completion

He will challenge Sims for sure. Weinke will make both much better QB’s.
