Was the entire OL SEC transfers? It only takes one screw up and you will constantly get this

Did you actually even bother to watch the videos you posted? You think there was only ONE screw up in the bottom video? And you must know that Cochran was one of those SEC transfers and he is a öööö up in both clips, so what was your point?.

I particularly like in the second clip how Cochran egregiously holds the NIU defender by the shoulder/arm and STILL can't keep him out of the backfield because he takes so ööööing long just to get out of his stance. What a ööööing joke. I can't believe that folks like Sugiura were pimping him as a draft "steal." I DNGAF what the measurements say, it's plain as day that he plays sloooooooooooooooooooooow / lethargic.

There better question is did you watch or understood what you watched? Even with those clips, Cochran was by far the best OL we had.

IDK what you’re talking about with Cochran on the 2nd clip. He did his responsibility by kicking out his weak side end man on the LOS. The play is more good NIU but Kenny cannot let that backside guy shoot the gap like that unabated

I do not want to discourage you from talking about this, or football in general, because I enjoy your thoughts and insight. But in that particular exchange, you are wasting your breath and time.

I can’t figure out what that play was supposed to be. RB looks to be lined up pretty deep. Handoff is on the left side where the TE is lined up. But the TE pulls right running past the NIU LB to seal the right side. The left guard doubles the NT.

Were we planning on the RB going into the hole on the left with no lead blockers on the goal line? Or was the RB supposed to cross back over and run to the right following the TE?Should we have audibled out of that play?

No, the jet motion was to get the defense, particularly the safety and backers, flowing to the left. The kickout by the pulling TE/H-back to seal the end was supposed to give Mason a 1v1 with an off-balance safety. I'd take those odds any day. LG didn't react to the blitzing LB and doubled on the nose instead. If he slides off that double and at least chips the LB, that's a walk in TD. He should have seen it or at least been ready to react if he blitzed because he was showing blitz.

Cochran committed a blatantly ööööing obvious hold on the second clip and it's a miracle he wasn't flagged. And he held because it took him an eternity to get his fat ass out of his stance. I don't care who the öööö you are, if you think those clips demonstrate that Cochran was good, then you're a ööööing imbecile.

Wow some people don't understand football very well. That play is a quick hitter designed to go to the right. Cochran doesn't delay. He takes a step with his right foot to the inside to force his man outside. He's already done his job at this point because his man isn't going to make the tackle. That would be a pretty egregious holding call IMO because EVERY lineman grabs inside the shoulders on nearly ever play.

K.

Let PFF know they are imbeciles as well

So is the play design to the left or the right? The handoff is definitely on the left. The TE is sealing the right. Mason goes left (with the handoff) but it is unclear if he was going to the left B gap because he go hit so quick.

It's designed to go to the right.. sort of a quick-counter. Watch Mason take his first step left. Yates actually messes up his footwork here a little bit and the timing is off. He reverses out to fake the handoff to the jet motion man, but spins too far and is in the lane Mason should be taking. Mason should take one hard step left there, plant and then wide open to the right end of the line. He had to get around Yates there and that was also another mistake on this play. Jeff probably had the timing down better at this point in the year taking the most reps with the 1s in practice. If the timing and spacing is right on that play, that blitzing LB would be diving at Mason's ankles and he likely gets through that tackle as well.

It’s reverse pivoted to give the appearance that you may give it on the jet sweep and to give the TE a half a second more to clear the formation. This play is power play essentially designed for the C gap

That makes sense. I was trying to work out how the play was designed to go left and couldn’t come up with anything. So the handoff brought the RB to the blitzing LB instead of shielding the LB a bit with the QB’s body.

Yes the design of the play took Mason that way but the QB never would've been shielding him. He didn't make a mistake on which side he took the handoff. That's how it's designed. The LB should've been blocked (or at least chipped) by the LG.

Here's a very crude paint drawing of how the play should look. Green dotted line is motion, blue lines are where all blockers go in this play. Notice the LG doubles the nose. If he does what I illustrated with the orange line and blocks that LB, it's a walk in TD for Mason.

I don't believe in the ever-widening gap theory of CFB. I remember back when the ACC put FSU and Miami in opposite divisions because they knew those two powerhouses would be battling in the ACCCG every year. Back then people thought the elites would dominate forever... but then they fell back to earth, just like every other dynasty ever.

The fact that people can continue to talk about some permanent over-class of have's oppressing us weakling have-not's after last year is beyond me. Numerous non-traditional powers ended up highly ranked, and numerous traditional powers were completely unranked.

I would agree with this up until last year. The landscape has changed. I’m a bit surprised that this point needs justification.

Do you really think the gap betwwen us and the dwags is pretty much the same as it was in 1980? That a couple good recruiting classes can even us up?

I really hope that’s not what you are thinking.
