Urban ded - who can we poach from his staff?

I don't really care about Urban or Ohio State one way or the other. I think the issue for a lot of people is that any random state employee or school administrator that no one's ever heard of would've been canned for this right away without all of the fake deliberations and jumping through rhetorical hoops to justify a suspension. But that's just the way it is. Some things will never change.

I'm not really sure what I think should have been done with Urban Meyer, but I strongly disagree that his ability to perform his job should not be a factor. This whole scandal has created a source of embarrassment for Ohio State. If they fired him, it would be because this embarrassment was such a negative that it outweighed any positives about Meyer. They clearly determined that it doesn't. He's a damn good coach so they are willing to accept the backlash because he otherwise performs his job admirably.
In the Sandusky case at Penn State, the NCAA adjudged that the independent internal investigation and recommendations were not stringent enough, and that the facts supported a charge of "lack of institutional control". As such, the NCAA brought more serious penalties to bare, crippling Penn State for years. Does anyone see anything similar happening here? Sports radio in Tampa today is floating the story of Zach Smith, then asst. coach Tom Hermann, and highschool coaches living it up at a strip club in Miami--a likely NCAA recruiting violation.

Any random state administrator wouldn’t even have this put in their file. Urban is getting suspended because he is high profile.

We should all care about Urban & the idea that some things will never change, but I agree with the rest of your post.

Dern. I was hoping he would be fired. This thread lost a lot of appeal when we started arguing legal intracacies of the employee handbook.

And didn't PSU take them to court and get this overturned?

Al$o, what kind of piece of $hit doe$ Urban'$ wife have to be if thi$ woman confided in her and a$ked for her to help get $omething done about it, but $he didn't after Urban apparently blew it off?

It didn't cripple Penn St. You must have missed finishing in/around the top 10 the last 2 seasons. The NCAA didn't have any jurisdiction in the matter (as disgusting as it was) and couldn't punish Penn St. as Sandusky's actions weren't related to transgressions that were designed to give Penn St. an edge on the field of play. The NCAA (in typical sanctimonous fashion) "jumped on the pile" after the tackle was made and tacked on charges/punishments because they could as Penn St. could not appeal due to the backlash that would have resulted.

As for OSU, I doubt that they would face any punishment. While Meyer would be guilty of turning a blind eye (failure to report) at worst and his attorneys would argue he didn't know the full depth of what an assistant coach did, Meyer didn't commit the actual abuse. If the NCAA can't punish Miami after the Shapiro incidents or UNC for having 30 years of fake classes (but offered to everyone, so hey that's ok), then OSU isn't getting punished for a domestic incident that an assistant coach did.

The NCAA sanctions would have crippled them, but the sanctions were relaxed before they were scheduled to run out. And no, the NCAA viewed the Penn State cover up as being an action designed to give the Nittany Lions a competitive advantage by concealing the pedophilia from the public so that it would not negatively affect their recruiting--a valid conclusion in my opinion--but what do I know?
