USC and UCLA to Big Ten

If the ACC and remaining PAC-12 teams merged to form a 24 team super conference, they would have a substantial presence on the east and west coast (ie where all people live). It would occupy 9 of the 13 fastest growing states in the country. People are moving from Big10 territory to the ACC / PAC-12 territory. Adding Notre Dame to mix would be nice, but not necessary. Not understanding how such a conference would not be able to get big TV money and remain viable. And no one would have to pay a conference buyout or deal with GOR nonsense to get the deal done.

If USC and UCLA do not have anyone to play in region, it will become a problem for them. Come play 7 games in LA and another 5-6 games 1500+ miles away on frozen tundra....Will this be appealing to kids growing up in sunny and 72 socal?

The ACC needs to do something fast. I have read rumors of a Big 12/PAC 12 merger. If that happens then the ACC is dead in the water.

I don’t think the ACC will ever be dead in the water. There are too many good programs in this conference and we own the East Coast which constitutes 40% of the population of the United States.

If you think the ACC is dead you are sadly mistaken.

Kick out Wake, BC, Pitt, Syracuse then renegotiate a 9 game round robin conference schedule format. Or leave Pitt and invite WVU for 12 teams.

Wut?

We had a black QB lead us to a national title. What the öööö are you talking about?

Looks like Dodd was wrong, yet again.
Are you just thickheaded? Nobody that knew anything about Dodd would suggest he was racist. There were a lot of reasons he decided to withdraw from the sec, but being racist was not among them. I am the one suggesting that the CRA introduced a huge number of gifted athletes into CFB who were not at the time academically prepared for a major engineering school. Dodd knew full well this was the case, but again it wasn't the sole or primary reason he wanted to withdraw. Race and racism are not the same thing, huh?
Btw, our MNC was in '90, ok, and what do you think our chances of it would have been in your beloved sec?

There are many companies ( and conferences) that failed to innovate and keep up with the times that went under. Any thing can happen if you sit on your backend and think things will be ok if you just wait.

Yes, and there are also many companies that went under who forgot or ignored their customers. The lunacy going now in cFB, benefits the fans/customers exactly how?

So are you saying that when Big 12 picks up the remaining good teams from the PAC 12 (except Washington and Oregon who are begging for a Big 10 invite), the Big 10 picks up Notre Dame, and the SEC comes sniffing around to poach the best of the ACC, the ACC is going to come out on top because they "listened to their customers?"

No one cares about UNC outside of the ACC. So all they’re left with is their location (mediocre) and fanbase (mediocre). Whereas we have our location (elite) and fanbase (mediocre). We win

UNC has a way better fanbase and way better (athletic) brand than GT. Agreed our location is much better though.

In that scenario the sec does not poach acc unless ESPN blesses it.

I have heard from multiple sources that the ACC cannot do anything. If they try to add anyone, the GOR is null and a new GOR would need to be executed to replace the one currently in place. So the ACC by trying to solve the content issue by adding more teams actually opens the window for these teams looking to leave the conference to depart - and they will for only the exit fee.

The ACC is in a pickle. If GT is not in the group that all leaves at the same time, we will be relegated to a league that is not the top tier of football (SEC and B1G). That will be the end game for 2 conferences with their own playoff for 1 championship. If there is not a group leaving, we get left behind in 10 years, as there will be less chairs available for teams to land on When the ACC will break up anyways.

If the GOR I reviewed last night is current, this is not true. Any new schools would sign onto the current GOR as a condition of conference membership.

That makes more sense. Doesn't seem like they would have drafted it any other way.

Huh? No. I'm saying the vastly changing world of cFB has no concern at all for it's customers.

I'm sure that UCLA's women's volleyball student-athletes are going to be thrilled travelling to New Jersey and Maryland on back-to-back Thursdays for those conference matchups.

Well the Big Trn is the best womens volleyball so it’s probably a bad example.

Yeah, I don't think it's affordable for the ACC schools until we get close to 2030s.

It sounds affordable for ND if their hand is forced via a scheduling squeeze or something.

It's no different for any of the ACC schools. You leave and finance the approximately $50MM buyout through the increased revenue from the new conference. Notre Dame would have to effectively announce they are joining the ACC, quit the next day and do the same thing.

That's not how I understand it. If we left, the ACC still owns our media rights. The ACC could broadcast our games or black them out completely. The B1G/SEC would not be able to broadcast our designated home games without consent and any media revenue covered by the GOR would go straight to the ACC. There would be no "increased revenue" because the new conference wouldn't have any of our inventory. We would SMU ourselves: the ACC wouldn't pay us for it since revenue is shared between conference members.
