Watching GT Football

Nvm, y'all are right. We have a great team and everything is fine. The fact that 4 of our last 7 losses have come when we blow a double digit lead in the fourth quarter is purely a result of biased referees and bad luck.

I think it is actually higher - should be 5 of our last 7.

2018:
USF

2017:
Tennessee
Miami
Virginia
Duke

The past two years puts the team at ~40% win rate when leading by 10+ points during the game. That’s a head coaching problem. It’s a shame, too. His offense is so pretty when it’s working.

Clemson played a well prepared team full of top 20 recruiting classes and didn't look like clowns.

Georgia Tech did the opposite of that.

Stats can mislead you.
Yeah I'd like to see how this offense does at TAMU under the same conditions. And yes, I'd swap offenses and talent with Clemson any day despite any superior offensive stats that GT might have.

I went to look at the last 5 recruiting classes. USF wasnt better than us in recruiting. We were slightly better. So all those bitching about the Hill not letting us recruit well, let that sink in for a second. We got outcoached. Admit that.

The hill doesnt make it so hard for us to recruit dead last in the ACC. The offensive style does.

If we agree that the offense is really (or at least pretty) good, then it becomes simple....improve the defense and special teams.

Defense: Can ANY d-coordinator be successful here if they are practicing against the TO every day? Can we ever have recruit good, Gailey-like defensive players with the TO on the other side of the ball? If the answer here is NO, then we are in trouble... I the answer is MAYBE, I think give Woody a chance.

Special Teams: Hire a full-time ST Coordinator and this is fixed? or keep it like it is, but play more upperclassmen and starters? Texas A&M had 2 starting LBs on kick coverage last night.

I think we know the problems are ST and D, so.....if "king for a day", how do you fix it? OR is it unfixable with the TO on the other side of the ball?

Who is blowing the lead, the offense or the defense?

And like I told y’all, a new DC isn’t going to solve the problem. The problem is one at the administration level, as we have covered time and again. We cannot get the same kids that other schools are getting. Not going to happen until something changes.

We can overcome the limitations on offense with scheme. That’s why CPJ is our coach. But we can’t overcome it with gimmicks on defense. Gotta go out and defend.

As has been recently pointed out, our defenses will never be able to prepare for the offenses they will see each week with the guys we have on the scout team. This is a limitation we are going to have while CPJ is the coach.

If you get rid of CPJ, you will probably get a guy that runs and offense that the defense can benefit from playing with, but then we are going to run into issues with our talent deficiency on offense. A real Catch 22.

So, seeing as how CPJ has gotten until into the ACCCG several times and into the Orange Bowl twice, I like the chances of him doing it again in the future. Until that happens, I’ll be happy to enjoy my Saturdays watching GT football, win or lose.

Good God Almighty!! If you have watched GT for the last four or five decades and don't believe in magic, then you are clearly blind or willfully obtuse. Going from 3-8 to MNC to 1-10 in essentially one recruiting cycle??? Explain that. We had a 16 game ACC losing streak, were 5-22 in the two plus years before the magic kicked in, and then won a NC in the next 15 months. In 1980/81 we went 2-19-1. Against #1 or #2 ranked teams in those years, we were 1-1-1. Against the rest of the schedule we were 1-18-0. Somebody please explain how this is possible within the laws of cause and effect? We have essentially played mighty Clemson with all their advantages to a draw since we joined the ACC. That's over a 30+ year sample size. You think what they have going now is permanent? You have no historical perspective. Since division play started in the ACC, we are essentially even with Clemson and VT, a couple of heartbreakers away from even with Miami, and pretty much manhandled the rest of the ACC. How?? With the exception of Clemson, who in the ACC would you trade places with right now? Give me a logical reason why we should not be UVA or UNC or WF or NC State or BC? Facilities, fan base, alumni support, academic ineptitude? Somebody explain to me in non-magical terms just exactly how a relatively small university with high academic requirements, a generally apathetic alumni base, small budget, trying to play and recruit in the middle of SEC country, with often one of the toughest schedules in the nation accomplishes what Tech does. This is God's trick on us. Take the fan base that worships logic and smack them between the eyes with a magic 2X4. Their pride won't let them accept the obvious, so we wallow in the misery of conflicting and irreconcilable analysis. "Change this or change that" we yell when really we should just sit back and salivate at the magic to come as it always inevitably does.

Nobody's blaming the refs. If we'd actually played defense and covered kickoffs, a holding call would have meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.

plenty of people are blaming the refs. pointing out holding calls and targeting penalties is Sandy Vag material.

I agree that shitty D and ST are more to blame than Zebras.

Duke we had the lead at the half, but not in the 4th.

Or...

...the fact that 4 of our last 7 losses have come from blowing a double digit lead means we can definitely hang with any team out there, skill and points wise, until late in the game.

Maybe the problem is psychological. When something bad happens in the 4th quarter, maybe the team starts thinking "here we go again," and it affects their play. I know the fans are thinking it. And I'm not sure CPJ is much of a psychologist.

Oh there is no “seem” anymore. It is without a doubt the triple option has negative impacts on our defenses ability to perform adequately against more conventional offenses. It’s taken until exactly Saturday for me to admit this. I had been in complete denial with the previous 3 DCs blaming them for our defensive deficiencies. But now on the 4th one with the same glaring lack of pass rush, slow LB play and DBs failing to cover TEs that I finally admit what I’ve defnded for so long. This offense is great at the expense of the defense. If you can accept that and roll with it as a potential winning formula then more power to you. I can only be pissed on my head and told it’s raining so many times before I wise up and realize that an awesome offense that does not allow for an adequate defense may not be the best formula for wining if you have to score every single time you get the ball. But that’s just me.
Funny you showed up after 8 years of not posting.

Slightly better? Does that factor in the Florida RB transfer and the Alabama/Arizona transfer? Plus, a kid with that kick returner's speed is more valuable than a 3 star.

Hell, we might have won with Blankenship from UGAg kicking off for us.

Bullshit. That’s a buttload of crap. The option is basic football, blocking and running, not a “gimmick” as some would like to say. If you can defense the option, basically assignments, you can defense anything.

Wow...not even worthy of a response it’s so full of ignorance.
