Welcome AD J Batt

He would 100% take that deal
I'd support that deal.

8 football wins is only $2M, 20 basketball wins is only another $1M, 40 Beesball wins gives him another $1M. He'd be one of the highest paid ADs in all the land and that's probably what we need to dig us out of this ditch.

Right now we're at $750k for football, $600k for basketball and $900k for Bessball for a $2.2M pay. It's pretty rich but I think the fanbase would pay pretty dearly to have all our major programs playing meaningful games at the end of their seasons.

that's WAY overpaying the AD. The school would be dumb as öööö to offer that

I wasn't 100% serious. Cut in half, cut a third off it, whatever he'll take and is reasonable. Maybe the 1st 5 football wins don't pay for example. It should certainly have a base salary that's guaranteed. Probably some fundraising and financial health metrics that pay off also. I really don't care but I'd like these guys we're going to hire to have some large skin in the game. A high percentage of their pay should be tied to performance. Incentivize getting out of this circling the drain situation that's been developing on the Flats & accelerated with the horrible decisions the last 3 years.

I hope he’s the next Homer Rice for us, because that’s what we need. An AD who can keep us competitive and get us back on solid financial footing. Don’t care if he goes by his first initial. Make good hires, get good contract terms, and make sound financial decisions, and he’ll be fondly remembered for generations.

To be honest, J has a relatively low bar to be remembered fondly considering our recent history with ADs. He has to compete against:
- An AD so incompetent that he got sued by his former employer for breach of contract for failure to pay his buyout despite specifically structuring his compensation with us to allow him to pay that buyout. Additionally he got the school and himself sued for gender discrimination in order to avoid paying the buyout on a women's basketball coach. Somehow, though, those weren't sufficient to get him fired. No, what got him fired was the atrocious performance of revenue sports crashing the financial position of the GTAA.
- An AD so absent that he was nicknamed after sasquatch because donors weren't sure whether or not he actually existed. He didn't invest in any of the programs and everything slid under his presence.
- Probably the most fondly remembered of recent predecessors, this AD got an ACC Championship forfeited and the program put on probation then proceeded to leave for our second biggest rival to lead them to two national championships.
- An AD who's renowned for signing a contract with an automatic rollover with no recourse for underperformance, doing a stadium expansion that made the stadium worse and that we still haven't paid off, and stating that our FB program shouldn't expect to be good.

J - the door is open.

@BainbridgeJacket Nailed it. We should have put your post on the job posting. Hey Mr AD candidate, $750k/yr and he's the annual renewal terms for your contract:

a. No NCAA probations or enforcement actions
b. No idiotic contracts for coaches
c. No losing asinine lawsuits
d. Stop the revenue bleeding in football & basketball

I don’t believe it was reasonable to blame Radakovich for the forfeit. IIRC the NCAA sent us an investigator who wanted to put players on super secret double probation and to withhold them from practice without any explanation to the coaches or players. Radakovich told Johnson about what happened and the investigator got butthurt and threw the book at us.

Otherwise a good summary. We desperately need some good leadership in the athletic department.

I got it, let's give out a very long like 10 year, basically no fire contract unless you commit a felony with no performance requirements. Yeah, that will do it. Carry on.

So the plan to turn the program around was to offer compensation near the bottom of the conference along with a clause that allows for automatic termination on the basis of something that may or may not be in the AD's control?

How much will next football head coach be Batt's decision?

He was hired for his fundraising experience, and that's important, but the next football coach may have as big an impact on finances as anything.

Whose plan is/was that? Stansbury was given about $900k with absolutely zero risk of getting fired for cause. Then we paid off his OSU loan. As it turns out, he won. We paid & then paid dearly for his mistakes.

750k year would be at the bottom of the ACC, and an enforcement action/probation could easily be out of the AD's control. I'd guess it most often is.

The things I mentioned are pretty baseline expectations. The fact that recent ADs have struggled with basics is why I’m saying he can win a lot of respect by just getting those right.

NC St $600k, UNC $800k, Pitt $800, Clemson $850k, Swarbick's I think the highest in ACC at $1M. $750k's probably a good base with heavy incentives for performance. I get the AD can't control a rogue coach, but he does set the rules and expectations plus manages infractions properly so we don't get hammered for minor BS which seems to be the way things go for GT. He also can't really control football wins, but he can make sure the HC is supported properly which leads to wins.
