White-Out

If we did it might start a riot in Atlanta for fear it was a KKK rally.

:laugher:

its not that hard, everyone just wear white...

i was at vandy and our blackout was successful
and its vandy
haa

How about we just try?

How about we stop worrying about who we look like or might be copying, and just do it?

How about we get over these lame ass excuses and show some goddamn school spirit for once?

Am I the only "stick in the mud" about "white-out/black-outs"? I think the whole thing turned out stupid in Athens because they played so poorly. Special uniform combinations and fan color coordination only look smart if you win, and they have no measurable ability to affect the outcome of the game. I know the team gives 100% no matter what the fans are wearing. I would love to see a statistic on W-L in games where the team wears a "special" uniform, or the stadium wears a certain color. Just curious.

Of course, if you all want me to wear white on a certain game...I certainly will. I just think the publicity looks stupid if you lose.

Go Jackets!!!

That just comes with the territory when it comes to these things. I would much rather see the white-out happen beautifully, and lose than have people not give a damn and still lose. Of course, winning trumps all no matter what we wear (except red). However, to hold the possibility of losing as a reason to not do something like this is unfair in my opinion.

I agree with all of this. Plus, the concept is just plain lame. "Hey, I know! Let's all dress the same! Gosh, it will be SO AWESOME!" Wrong. It's about as awesome as having Hawaiian Shirt Day at the office. Awesome is beating Miami. Or Georgia for that matter. Win, win, win, win. That's what matters. This is just a distraction and it's extra motivation for the opponent.

It's fun, it gets the players excited and makes them feel supported, and it gets the fans involved. Why not? There's so much needless hype in the game nowadays anyway so why not.

Please explain to me how it is extra motivation for the opponent. The whole point of the event is to create an electric energy that gives you even more of a home-field advantage. And before you throw last Saturday out there, I'll raise you auburn last year, or hell, Illinois @ Penn State the same night of the uga game.

Yes, but only if they are selling cheap white shirts outside the stadium.

Didn't you here all the stories about Bama's coaches telling their players that UGA was wearing black to a funeral? Then that gets back to the UGA staff and they have to think of ways to deal with that, which is where the distraction comes in. It's similar to scheduling a team for Homecoming, or publicly guaranteeing a victory, or doing anything to indicate that the opponent is not the primary concern. It's construed as disrespect. You damn well know that if Clemson was scheduling a Purple-Out or something for our game, we'd all be talking about how effing stupid it was and how we were going to give them a bunch of purple bruises to go along with their dorky purple-clad fans etc. PJ would probably paint the lockerrooms purple.

I like the idea and am excited to do it, but the original question is can we make it look like Penn State's White-Out and the answer is no. There are too many people that either don't care or just simply aren't in tune with what's going on.

I remember a few years ago when Clemson wore all purple and beat the ever-loving **** out of us.

Give me a f'n break people. Just wear white at the damn game. It's no different than wearing gold at every other home game. It's not about intimidation or looking cool, it's about supporting the team showing school spirit. If you're not going to wear white then keep your lame ass at home.

So, tell me how that distraction worked out for auburn last year, Illinois against Penn State this year, or climpsun against us two years ago? (thanks for the unpleasant reminder cake eater)

And that's just unfortunate, because it's pretty damn simple. Wear something white. If you think it'll be cold, there's apparel that is conducive to that. Every argument I've heard against the white-out is just stupid, plain and simple.

I support the team and show spirit by spending a bunch of money, yelling til my throat is sore, experiencing vast emotional swings with every single play, throwing things around the living room if I'm at home, inventing new curse-words if there's a bad call, and having my day ruined if we lose, and coming on these boards in case some freak out there has some new information, like whether our second string right tackle's mother won church bingo. In fact, the reason I am AGAINST the white-out is BECAUSE I care so much and have so much spirit. Hell, I wear white to some games anyway. This isn't about whether it's good for me. This is about whether it's good for the team. So if you think I'm not a real fan, you can just go straight to Hell.
