White-Out

Alright then, in that case, we must be copying Rutgers and Princeton University for actually playing a football game against another school. You see what I did there? .

Yes, I see what you did there. You made yourself look like a moron by comparing a "white-out" to having a football program. But you didn't fool me; I doubt very much that you are a moron. You're just being defensive of our stupid white-out because you support the team. I actually respect that.

And I'm fine with people disagreeing with me. But I'm entitled to my opinion, which is that having this white-out is an exercise in copying a stupid trend. It is a fact that we are copying a trend. It is my opinion that the trend is stupid. Nothing here is irrational. Disagree with me if you want, but don't pretend that I'm an idiot for having an opinion. I'm not the only one with this opinion.

Funny you say the thread should be deleted since you have posted at least 10 times on this one thread, so obviously it has some importance to you

I know. What kind of sad loser would be posting on this thread? I wish we could go back in time and prevent it from being started. That, and this stupid white-out idea.

Actually I used the same irrational logic as you by thinking that because someone else has done it, we must be copying them. My example was on a larger scale than the white out, but it's the same thing. Sure you can have your opinion that the trend is stupid, but I can have my opinion that you are irrational in this belief. As I've stated before, there is nothing but good that can come of having this white-out. The only bad thing that I recall you saying could come out of this was bulletin board material for the other team. For this, you threw out Alabama. However, I replied to you with several instances where the <insert color>-out was successful, but no one has shown any additional evidence in which such an event motivated the opposing team. In fact, I would go so far as to say that if you asked the players, they would support the idea, saying that they would feed off of it. Of course, uga probably felt the same way, but I believe that last Saturday had nothing to do with the blackout and everything to do with Alabama having better Offensive/Defensive lines, and being able to hit uga in the mother****ing mouth. I fail to see how such an event is pointless or stupid when I look at the pros and cons of it, and I will continue to do until someone can actually make a decent point instead of flaming the idea and hiding behind the "it's my opinion" excuse. So, like I said, you can have your opinion. I will simply hold on to mine that you and all who agree with you are incredibly foolish for having that opinion.

Sigh. I've made all my points already. Many of them were decent. Many of your points are decent. That's why I have conceded that this boils down to a difference of opinion. Calling an opinion an opinion is not an "excuse."

In response to your examples of teams that had their version of a white-out and still won, let me explain to you the fallacy you are making: You are totally ignoring the possibility that although the visiting team was motivated by the home team's white-out, the home team overcame this and won anyway. Here's an analogy: When someone like T. O. looks into a camera and guarantees a victory before a game, it will pump up the other team and create distraction. However, the Cowboys could very well still win. The victory doesn't justify what T. O. did. And I never even came close to saying that our white-out would guarantee a loss. I merely expressed the opinion that the cons outweigh the pros. It's an opinion. Sorry if you don't like it.

By the way, how can someone's subjective opinion be irrational? It would be one thing if I was opining that the stadium was made out of muenster cheese or that Paul Johnson was a polar bear. That would be irrational. But my opinion is nothing more than an expression of a preference. Preferences CANNOT be irrational. And I have conceded that what's happening is a difference of opinion. If that's not good enough for you, I give up. I guess you won't be happy until I admit that I'm an irrational, illogical, moronic piece of ****.

This will be my last post on the subject. I think the white-out is stupid and you don't. Fine. You think I'm irrational and foolish. Fine. I've been called worse, and by people who make sense.

I think this is my first entry into this quagmire.

The reason the White Out is dumb, is because our fanbas is a bunch of engineers, and engineers are EFFING TERRIBLE at coordinating fashion. Which, in turn, is going to make us look dumb on TV.

We were finally making headway with the whole "next time I'll remember to wear gold" signs and whatnot, and we've scrapped that headway this season.

All that said, I'll wear white on the "wear white day." Wouldn't want to be part of the problem.

See my signature, beej.

I noticed that the white-out thread had dipped down to the second page of threads --and I just knew everyone would want it bumped up, so I posted to it today.

After all the bantering back-n-forth, I have actually forgotten when the white-out is to take place. Is it the Miami game? It's not Duke is it? I would hate to show up in my old-gold while the rest of you guys are in white.
