How do you feel about the triple option offense?

There are issues with the foundation of our program that go beyond Johnson. If you think some hotshot new coach is going to come in here and start landing a bunch of 4 star guys, you are mistaken.
Then why not save money, hire a HC for $50k/year. How much worse could they do than 3-9?

Wins and losses, my friend. That's the only thing that matters. Off the top of my head, we've got a 25% success rate of victory against mutts and similar rates against UM and VPI. I think we're .500 vs FSU & Clemson or close to it. I don't consider UNC or Duke to be elite, which helps you since we've lost 2 IAR to 'em. Only a truly apathetic fan or a complete loser is happy with a 25% success rate.
Again; CPJ's WL record, even against the "elites", is consistent with every coach we've had since Pepper, not including Lewis. You seem to think he only compares to Lewis.

You realize that recruiting is his responsibility as well?

He can't go to publix, pick out a bunch of öööö groceries, and then complain about the grocery quality when people don't like his food.

We've had what - half dozen coaches - in the "modern football era." None of them were year in and year out lights out recruiters allowing us to consistently compete at an elite level like you guys want.

With that many coaches with same turnout, maybe it's the ööööing school that makes it near impossible to do that.

Im not a math major, but they could do three games worse.

No, it's just that you're exactly right: CPJ's WL record against elites is consistent with almost all of our previous coaches. Many of the ST posters have put the guy on a tall pedestal of awesomeness though and get personally offended when anyone dares to express an opinion that doesn't tow the party line that "CPJ is the best coach for GT" and that the TO is the best possible scheme we have ever - or will ever - run.

Strawman argument skrong.

I really like the offense Houston runs. I have never liked CPJ offense. I know it works when run correctly, but it's boring in my opinion. It also is really hard to recruit kids that want to play in it.

I also enjoy Houston's offense as it feels a bit like the next crank on what Ohio State is doing. Thank you for actually engaging in a reasonable response.

If you would read down to the next line (which you left off), I literally said that the failure to recruit elite players falls on Johnson. But this thread is not about that. Nor is it about the consistently poor defense we have had. This thread is about dumbasses making stuff up about why the OFFENSIVE SCHEME sucks, realizing that the vast majority of fans on here disagree with them, and then doubling down on the dumbassery.

MY perception is 'far from reality'? Ummm..we lost to FSU in 2014. I know stats are important to the fans of this scheme but wins are kinda important too. And I like the "We didn't need to" line for Clemson to cover the fact that they stifled the offense in 2014 2015, and 2016.
So you ignore the success of the offense against FSU because we didn't win, but then in the next line still manage to bash the offense despite the fact that we did win? Nice logic there.

Also... I don't know how many times I can say that PJ is responsible for recruiting, defense, etc. You see a loss and immediately blame the offense. I see us put up 35 points and almost 500 yards of offense against FSU and really that it's dumb as shit to blame the offense. We lost because we couldn't stop them. That has been too consistent over the years, so that is where I direct most of my criticism. When I criticize the offense, I look for specific problems rather than just condemning the entire scheme that has, in large part, been tremendously successful for us.

I'd like to let JT watch some plays in Fridge's offense and ask him which one he'd rather be a QB in...

You realize he did sign with GT knowing he would play in this offense, right? It's the same offense that he won the Orange Bowl with.

Just because he signed on to the run the 30 doesn't mean it would be his first or second choice. He wanted to play FBS quarterback so he took what he could get.

And I guess we might as well shut down the football program while we are ahead and have nothing left achieve. After all, WE DID WIN THE ORANGE BOWL IN 2015. I mean, we've been to the mountain top already!

As far as our great achievement in 2014 goes, isn't it true we wouldn't have gone to the ACCCG if Miami and UNC had not declared themselves ineligible? And wouldn't FSU have gotten the Orange Bowl spot if they weren't in the BCS playoff?

No on Miami and UNC that was another year.

Yes on FSU. They won the ACC.
