I'm very willing to continue to be patient. Unlike Gailey, Paul has shown us what he can do when he has talent. I think he's starting to hit his stride in recruiting, and for what it's worth I really really like the fact that he graduates a lot of players. That to me is very important. I don't want GT to be accused of selling out its athletes simply to field a team without helping them achieve a degree. That may not be a very important factor in actually winning games, but it is something that I value.
I'm having a hard time coming up with coaches who would do better than PJ, because you have to include his first two years in any evaluation. And the fact that he has several OT losses in the past few seasons. Yes the final numbers are daunting, but they are not indicative of where we are. Hell I talked to a Tennessee fan who said that Butch Jones has him excited for the future, and they were pretty bad this year.
In fact I think a lot of programs (another UVA fan I talked to basically said it's time to just realize we're not going to compete with Auburn and Bama, etc.) are starting to realize just how stacked the deck is against teams that aren't willing to go all-in in order to achieve football success.
I do think that the current generation of kids is NOT suited for Paul Johnson's offense. There are exceptions to that, but those are the kids who go to the academies. Kids who value team, sacrifice, integrity, and education, are not exactly the ones that are winning football games nowadays.
Kids nowadays value touches, speed, highlights, and NFL futures. They look at our offense and don't see any of that.
