Why Brent Key should be HC

Something we over analyze things. The mark of a great coach is the players want to play for him. If you play with more energy and effort you will win when all other things are equal or even a little bit unequal. Y’all seem to forget that these are 18-22 year old males and football is the 2nd thing on their mind most of the time.

Coach Key has the ability to get them to focus in a way that the players like and it is apparent they love playing for him

He was known as a great recruiter at Alabama. He has Watson to help in that regard. We probably need to spend some dollars to get him some administrative help and create an organization behind the coaches that allow them to focus on coaching and recruiting. Defensive staff seems to have performed much better after the clown was let go. Key, I’m sure, knows if he likes the fit with the offensive coaches and will act accordingly.

Give him a five year deal with little to no buyout. That is effectively the same as a two or three year deal, but looks better to recruits.

What we’re y’all saying after the UVA, FSU, and Miami games? I feel like we’re still blinded over a good defensive win. Key is an offensive coach on one of the worst offenses in the country. If we want to hire a guy from the inside, why would we not take Thacker out of all people?

- He has not managed the QB situation very gracefully (is Sims available or is he not? Gibson vs Pyron). Could even maybe say something for the UNC game on that; we were definitely just preset swapping the 2 every possession and only later started thinking about who we sent out.

Wait, I want to make sure I understand this right.

Being down to your third and fourth string QB on the road against the #13 team, playing them both a couple series to get them on the field and warmed up, using them situationally to perfection throughout the game with both contributing at key moments, and upsetting a -21.5 favorite is an example of not managing the QB situation gracefully?

Forget about the wins or losses. Did you see anyone playing with less than 100% effort in those games. Mistakes......they made a lot and didn't win. Should we have won? Certainly the UVA and Miami games. I don't think Key was the reason we lost those games. In every game, he has had a good game plan to win.

1) sure, we play with effort, but effort will only get you so far. 2) how do you know it was HIS gameplan? And if it was, it was actually not great. Key is an offensive coach on one of the worst offenses in the country. He has never coached defense in his life. We are a team carried by our defense. If we hire anyone internally, the only one that would make sense would be Thacker.

Yeah last part is shaky and probably doesn't qualify.

Key's games......
Pittsburgh...Sims plays whole game......WON
Duke....Sims plays whole game except in OT......WON
Virginia.....Sims hurt......Gibson öööös the bed......LOST
Florida St....Gibson starts....Pyron comes in........LOST
Virginia Tech.....Pyron Starts......WON
Miami.....Pyron starts......injured when score is 14-7.....Gibson pees the bed.....LOST
UNC....Gison starts and plays with Taison......WON

You bitch about the offensive, but please name me any other offensive that has played 4 QBs over the past 7 games and has a winning record.

It is one of the "worst" offenses in the country as you put it because we are dealing with severe QB injuries. Name me one other team that has two QBs out for the season and give me their record if you want to compare? I will give you one team that lost their QB. Kansas.....5-0 to start the season....QB got hurt in the 6th game.......1-5 since..........Is that the coaches fault?

When Key had his number one QB in, he won two games against teams that are now both 7-4.

Our ööööty offense also held the ball for 35 minutes last night.......helping the defense. It was a total team win and to say it was the defense winning the game is just not accurate.

Also the amount of offense he squeezed out of Gibson was amazing. It was a perfectly crafted gameplan.

I don't know how much of that credit should go to Key or Long, but to say that last night's offensive game plane was "actually not great" is unfathomable for anyone who has watched Gibson play the past few games.

We are too 5 in turnovers gained and turnover margin. With that, we have gained an extra 20 sum odd possessions on our opponents throughout the season. Our defense has held opponents under 30 points every game except Miami and FSU. WITH THAT, we should be able to win the VAST majority of those games. I remember watching Ohio State win the NCAA Championship with their 3rd string at QB. Key mismanaged our QB situation against UVA. Why would you keep Gibson in if he’s just gonna keep sacking himself and missing throws? VT, we scraped by with a win. Miami, we got manhandled by a BACKUP QB. Again, if we want to hire anyone internally, hire Thacker. UNC should’ve won this game, Josh Downs dropped the game. Had Josh Downs caught the ball, all of y’all would be arguing about Jamey Chadwell or Mike Houston, or whoever else y’all wanted.

Ahhhhh yes, TOP, I remember having a HC that was ridiculed for us holding the ball for so long. The defense got two takeaways, one of those being in the redzone.

It wasn’t. UNC kept playing 10 yards off the ball, and all we did was throw short routes.

Starting to think she’s a bot. I wake to see the same exhausting verbal diarrhea across multiple threads.

That's true. A great offensive gameplan isn't one that adjusts to what the defense is doing, beats them at it, and holds the ball for 35 minutes en route to a huge upset. Especially not with your top 2 QBs out.

A real man would take his third and fourth string QBs and throw it deep against a defense that is playing off the ball. And it would try to score as quickly as possible to make the sure high powered offense of the opponent is on the field as much as possible. Then it would walk home uphill in the snow.

That would be true greatness.

Let me ask you. Whose fault is it that we keep running inside zone with backs that are built for outside runs, and an o line that can’t man up and block inside to save their lives?

Doesn't seem relevant to saying that last night's offensive gameplan was actually not great because all it did was take what the defense was giving us, keep UNC's offense off the field, and score a massive upset with the third and fourth string QBs.

The inside zone is literally part of the offense gameplan…

HC and coordinator are completely different jobs. Venables was an elite DC, and how's he doing as the HC at Oklahoma?

Brent Key is the guy.. let's try not to eff it up. Sometimes the obvious decision is the right one
