Apples and oranges. MLB doesn’t have a portal. That would be similar to what the Braves did with Snitker. And look how that turned out.
Very well said!GT just beat at team that had a 2-6 record and now some folks want to elevate Key to Head Coach?
IMO, when the team laid an egg against a VERY BEATABLE UVA team, Key lost any chance of becoming the
next HC at GT.
WE can only hope and pray that our new AD makes the next greatest hire in the annals of GT football history, much
like Dr. Homer Rice did when he hired Coach Bobby Ross.
I understand. But what gets me is every coach who coaches at his alma mater always uses the fact he’s an alum /former player to ingratiate himself to the fanbase. Key did it when he talked about his love for this institution, blah, blah, blah. Don’t try and sell me that when you did nothing while it burned. I just want honesty not emotions.Yeah, I think that last part is the key. I agree that he needs to outline exactly what Collins was doing wrong, what his role is and why he couldn't correct it, etc. But all that needs to be done in private to the AD. There is zero reason for him to take public shots at the former HC like Collins did.
I don't think Key has a moral duty to quit because Collins sucked. It's not a sin to stay in your job because you want the money even though you don't have full confidence in your boss.
It sucks, but sometimes that's what a job is. And in the end, no matter how much he loves Tech, it's still a job and he still needs to provide for his family, so he's not going to sacrifice that job on the off chance that the AD will decide to fire Collins because of it. That will be true of any coach we hire, too -- incredibly rare to see someone voluntarily give up a paycheck.
Thacker gives great press conferences let's retain him too!I think a lot of it is that Key gives great press conferences, you can tell how much he loves Tech, and he has the players playing incredibly hard for him. It's very easy to want to root for him.
GT fan - J Batt shouldn't hire BOB just because he already knows him.
Also GT fan - Hey let's hire ICBK because he is a Tech man and has been our assistant coach and offensive line coach for the past dismal three years. He may have had the title as the offensive line coach but we all know it was Gef who did it!

I hope our next coach comes in at his first presser and says something along the lines of “I know very little about Georgia Tech as a school or it’s history. And honestly I don’t care about any of that. I am being paid to win football games so my job is easily defined as to how I will be judged. Sorry if I offend you by not attending basketball or volleyball games. None of that will help me win football games. And if I win a bunch of games I hope I am offered a bigger contract as I like big houses, yachts, and many zeros on my bank statements. I am a nice guy but I was not hired to be friendly to alumni or worry about things that do not lead to wins. The AD loves to talk to you. If I see you on the street and you yell “Go Jackets” to me and I don’t acknowledge you it’s not because I’m a jerk it’s because I’m thinking about which recruit to call next or which formation to use on 3rd and goal. I ask to be judged by winning or losing football games, nothing else.”
Nick Saban isn’t even this ridged and out of touch. So who do you have in mind that fits this criteria?
I have no one in mind. If I was asked to help in the search then I probably would at this point. I just want a real football coach who wants to be a coach and not everything to everyone. I don’t care if the person is personable, speaks well, or sings the Ramblin Wreck. I just want a coach who coaches and is driven to be judged by his on field results. I’m tired of fake. While it sucks to win 3-4 games a year I don’t mind it as long as the coach is honest and doesn‘t tell me it’s snowing in July. I want the next Steve Spurrier but I’m sure we’ll get a retread.Nick Saban isn’t even this ridged and out of touch. So who do you have in mind that fits this criteria?
That’s where you misquoted. It should be “I don’t care about your school, your history, or you as an alumni. I‘m just here to win football games and because of that you’ll pay me lots of money to buy nice things and you’ll donate money to my recruiting budget because you like to win too”."I don't care about your school, your football program's history, or you as an alumnus, I'm just here to make money and buy nice things. Could you please donate some money so I can have a recruiting budget?"

Its amazing how emotional people have become who want to always believe they are important. I don’t care if a GT ever knows I exist or gives any cares towards me. I just want to see GT uniforms win games. I don’t need to feel important by our coach. I can do that on my own. And winning makes me feel even more important as I sport GT gear.
This.. punting on 4th and 1 from near midfield was a bad idea especially with our punt team.. doing it twice was atrocious... He finally learned the third time and although we didn't convert it still worked out for usTo be honest, I’m not bringing him back for more than a 2 year deal if it happens. He hasn’t shown me enough. I feel like he has a poor feel for the game, especially knowing when to go for it or punt it. It’s improvement from CGC, but I think there is something to be said for us being happy to see some wins after whatever happened the last few years.
This is some real bullshit. While it sucks to win 3-4 games a year I don’t mind it as long as the coach is honest and doesn‘t tell me it’s snowing in July.
It would have been easy. No hindsight needed. At the end of year 2 if Brent Key, Tashard Choice, Marco Coleman, and others on staff would have held an off campus press conference (of course giving TStan and Cabrera a heads up) and actually gave a statement and answered questions our program and themselves would have benefitted. By that point it was obvious (Citadel, Temple, Clemson with 73, VT 45-0, UCF boat race, UGA we were a non factor). All those guys would have had jobs the next year and their integrity would still be intact.
And to compare these jobs to everyday jobs is just ludicrous. Nobody cares about normal jobs. These guys jobs are done in front of thousands and broadcast to the world. In no way would these guys be seen as quitters. They would have been seen as GT alums/former players who care about the program and could articulate that the turd was in over his head. I have very little respect for men who stay silent while something they claim to love gets destroyed. That is what they all did and they took the paychecks to stay silent. And Key still hasn’t come out and said anything about the previous guy. Collins took more shots at Johnson who actually won games yet Key hasn’t said a word about Collins. To me if Key wants the job he needs to explain what happened the previous 4 years and what his role was and how he challenged the turd.
Dabo wasn't a great position coach either but when he was given the opportunity, he surrounded himself with good coordinators and has become a pretty successful HC. I'm not saying that Key is going to be the next Dabo, but it seems like the players like playing for him and he has made us more competitive over the last few weeks which is exactly what Dabo brought to Clemson.I don't think Key is the answer we need. We need a HC that brings not only a winning personality, but one that brings some hard work ethics. We need a HC that can direct and mold this team. Key, couldn't mold and direct the O line. I fail to see why people think he can magically lead a team. Is Deion the answer? I don't know. I personally don't think Deion is a good fit. However; Deion is the popular choice, from what I gather. I like Bill Obrien, Jamey Chadwell and Todd Monken better than Deion. Either way, I think Key would be just another bad hire.
