Why building a culture with Geoff Collins is more important than winning

even if I COMPLETELY remove W's and L's Geoff Collins would still probably be the worst GT coach in the past 40 years. I remember in his ~first game against Clemson he had players lifting weights on the sideline before the game......? It was a GT embarrassment that just kept getting worse. The GT brand has taken an enormous hit under Geoff Collins. He is following in the Ugag model, IMO. I really hope that a new hire will bring back the O'leary, Gailey, and Johnson culture.

I agree. The circus culture is not working. It seems like CGC has toned it down some this year so maybe there is hope.

I don't think the weightlifters were as embarrassing to the program as the dressed up and choreographed sideline juice crew who even cheered at the wrong times..how great was money down? He's turned the GT brand into an area code, airport code, three dollar bill and burger king crown.

Article has it all wrong. Gef came out and said that he’s set the culture. Now we’re taking a deep dive into every facet of football. He’s an elite defensive mind, but he was setting the culture. Now he can get involved in the deep dive of the actual game.

Our AD reinforced this. Sometimes it’s right to stay the course. And with Gef, that’s the right thing to do.

We’ve gone all in on winning this year. We’ve hired more staff. It is, literally, win or go home for all of them.

The uga model that just won a national championship?

I'll buy into it when a bunch of 18-year old, 4-star kids start signing and we chalk up six wins.

Collins is a “elite defensive mind”?

Collins is a “elite defensive mind”?
According to Gef he is. In his post season press conference, he said:
(1) He’d been working to set the culture this whole time;
(2) Now that the culture was set, he was going to take a “deep dive” into every facet of the football program. No stone would be left unturned.
(3) He wasn’t trying to toot his own horn, but if you asked around with college and pros, he was one of the elite defensive minds in the country.
(4) Now that the culture is set, he will be able to pay attention to the defense.

“was”

Cats out of the bag now.

The biggest question is why are we even starting threads about and linking articles to fansided.com pages? Who even reads those? This cat probably got more clicks in the past week than he ever has because 20 folks on here had to click on and read that article.

Unfortunately the play clock kept running down & he burned all of his timeouts in the first 5 mins. I suppose the ball is spotted correctly now though. Elite effort. Gimme some 404 ATL juice.

Collins is [personally] liked by players, coaches, and fans. He's made changes in failing areas. He's got mistakes to look at and learn from. If I were the AD, I would have retained him as well. Between the cost of firing him and the subsequent cost of his replacement, the timing was bad. And firing a guy after three very unique and challenging years (i.e. converting from the TO and dealing with COVID) tells future candidates they will be expected to win now. That's fine if you're Bama, but Tech can't afford to send that message.

But this is me looking at this through an optimistic lens. I'm looking for positives. The reality is that come November 30, we will likely be looking at modest improvements and another year of watching other teams play in December. Stans' decision last year was an easy one. His job gets a lot harder if Collins gives him 4-5 wins.

I know what I'd like to see done in that scenario, but it always seems easy to fans.

I don't disagree with all of your point, but had our Dipshit AD not given an unproven (not even Upper Comer) a very lucrative and backloaded contract...It wouldn't have been to costly to part ways. The problem is with the AD and his inability to raise funds, spend appropriately and the list goes on. If we win 5 gms 2 will most definitely be by forfeit. He's awful and so is our AD. The king loved court jesters back in the day.
