Collins is [personally] liked by players, coaches, and fans. He's made changes in failing areas. He's got mistakes to look at and learn from. If I were the AD, I would have retained him as well. Between the cost of firing him and the subsequent cost of his replacement, the timing was bad. And firing a guy after three very unique and challenging years (i.e. converting from the TO and dealing with COVID) tells future candidates they will be expected to win now. That's fine if you're Bama, but Tech can't afford to send that message.
But this is me looking at this through an optimistic lens. I'm looking for positives. The reality is that come November 30, we will likely be looking at modest improvements and another year of watching other teams play in December. Stans' decision last year was an easy one. His job gets a lot harder if Collins gives him 4-5 wins.
I know what I'd like to see done in that scenario, but it always seems easy to fans.
