Why building a culture with Geoff Collins is more important than winning

No I’m not. The whole point of the article and this discussion is culture is more important than winning to grow the fanbase and recruiting yada yada. It’s blatantly obvious that the interest level has bottomed out for the faithful and we’re not getting any new sidewalk fans without winning. Then your point is high school kids like it, meaning it helps recruiting. So I show you the recruiting rankings and your point changes to oh there’s other factors, therefore proving the point that this öööö does not work unless you win.
Ok, in that case, I agree with you. I wasn’t talking culture over winning (kind of forgot that was the original point of the thread). I was talking importance of culture in isolation of anything else. But you are absolutely correct that without winning, culture means very little in recruiting.

I understand that the current coach has not produced as billed.
Then you don’t understand. Recruiting has absolutely improved. Read any article by the recruiting experts. The issue is winning has to happen for the recruiting to continue, and it hasn’t. The fact that CGC has recruited the 10 commits for 2023 as well as the transfers that are coming in while hanging the horrible win/loss record is a sign he can absolutely recruit. We just need the wins. In that aspect, he has failed to this point.

Obviously your reading comprehension is lacking. I never said recruiting hasn't improved. I simply said that he has not produced the type of recruiting as billed. You can spin the rankings anyway you want but I think honesty would compel one to agree that last years class and ranking was not on par with what was expected. If you disagree, I'm ok with that. Bottom line though, his performance in all areas of responsibility, has sucked so far.

Also, a big part of this "culture" thing was ATL, 404, Atlanta, blah. Complete and abject failure and looks like a joke now. We look like complete pretenders trying to claim some kind of "Atlanta" brand, no better and even some ways much worse than GEORGIA freaking STATE. The reality is that UGA dominates the Atlanta media landscape, for extremely obvious reasons.

Slapping fake branding all over everything when we literally have the skyline behind our stadium is so stupid. Be GEORGIA TECH. Represent GEORGIA TECH. Trying to be "Atlanta" was a very passive statement that being Georgia Tech just wasn't enough and we had to try to steal something with cachet.... in the end it's only diminished us.

For the second half we have also been doing that, it hasn't only been Atlanta stuff. We had a regularly aired commercial (meaning not the commercial every school gets played during their games) that was heavy on the "we're smart and advanced" aspect at a football game. Maybe I'm just uninformed but seemed like a big deal to be able to get a commercial being aired during any game the whole season.

Every coach in America would’ve gotten a 3yr grace period on their contract to take this job. You’re delusional if you’re still peddling the notion a rebuild wasn’t needed especially with the state of the OL was in

Maybe a 3 yr grace period. But hiring a used care salesman to a 7 yr deal is insane and even more so when it's backloaded. If I'm delusional, so are the other 9 people that still give a damn about the state of GT Athletics. The guy won 13 gms in 2 yrs at Temple after Matt Rhule took them to 10 wins. Delusional must be a compliment on your planet. That spend is THE MOSTLY COSTLY spend in Stans tenure.... and it's even more COSTLY to the program as a hole. We're going further backwards compared to at minimum consistency when CPJ was there. We'll be lucky to ever win against Dabo or Kirby again at this rate. Talent won't stay because the program is a damn joke. And to the folks that have lockjaw from blowing transfers on OL.... It's hard to build a line in 1 season and they graduate. OL's are successful when they play together for at minimum 1.5 seasons. Tech fans (regardless of intellect) are some the dumbest sports fans on the planet. The actual fans that understand the damn game understand this already.

PS Red, grace periods usually show improvement over that time period. I'm yet to see any and honestly it's a regression since he came on. If you see otherwise, please give a current weather report on the planet you've inhabited

How many lies can one post have?

he was 4 on some but mainly 5 star rated.
That is not correct. He was a 4 star on Rivals and Scout, the only two major rating services at the time. ESPN did not start rating high school recruits until 2006. 247 did not exist until 2010.

Start with the Temple wins, for one.

The Temple argument is so stupid. So Temple was a perennial power that could continue to win 10 games after losing starting NFL QB & multiple Top 100 draft picks?

Lies? Do tell?

I'm sorry he won 15 gms in 2 yrs. Whoops. Either way Rhule won 20 his last 2 seasons there. But Matt's an actual coach and not a smoke blower

Wasn't three years up LAST year? And as others have said, you would have hoped to see SOME progression, at least, by year 3. What we saw last year was regression.

Oh so you're looking for NFL draft picks. Yeah I got nothing. Other than the fact that you may have lockjaw from his scrotum and he still sucks. Would you prefer 20 wins in 2 seasons at Temple or 9 wins in 3 yrs at Tech with zero progression? You're a complete idiot and that's ok. I'll stick with my idiotic tendencies as opposed to your permanent residence. You're case in point of why Tech Fans get laughed at. If I knew where you sat, I'd watch from the West Stands with binoculars to see something entertaining. F'n idiot

I only know of him hitting 5 stars on 24/7 but I didn't honestly know it'd been around that long

Exactly. They think signing some hs kid is progress. Well it is if you provide another 10 to play with.

Sims hasn’t improved since the day he arrived. That’s just my opinion. The problem of signing multi star athletes when it’s a negative star HC does nothing.

UGA will probably win 10+ in a row over us and own that streak soon. Which sucks but that happens when you have coaches that actually develop talent. Even Johnson was better at player development than this hairpiece wearing idiot

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it? You're making yourself look dumber the more you post. His point was Temple was not some perennial powerhouse that garnered 10 wins regularly. Rhule did it 2 years in a row with a QB and several others that were selected in the NFL draft, but you are saying that since Collins couldn't produce 10 wins after losing those players then that automatically means he regressed the program? C'mon man.

And your comments about the OL show just how little you do understand. We took upper classmen OL transfers because we HAD TO. We had to have guys that could play right away and fill holes. You seldom see an OL starting or getting a lot of playing time as a Freshman or Sophomore. There are some exceptions and guys that have the build for it early on like Jordan Williams, but most take at least 2 years to develop. So your solution to build cohesiveness on the OL was to not take older OL transfers to play and fill spots while we got our recruits ready to play but to just play them early before they were ready?
