Will CPJ's offense bury GT football in the long run?

We haven't had a QB of Josh Nesbitt quality to run this offense since Nesbitt left...and Nesbitt wasn't recruited for this offense. That's the thing I can't figure out. In a typical year Navy has better talent at QB running this style offense than we do. How is that possible? I remember in 2009 people dreaming of when we got a QB recruited specifically for this offense, well when is that going to happen?

We haven't had a Dwyer or AA quality B-back except for Mills either. Again how is that possible? Getting a quality B-back to showcase in this offense shouldn't be that difficult. Marshall could have been that guy (was he just not coached up); but we should be two or three deep in B-backs every year, not forced to convert Days to B-back; or wringing our hands wondering if we will even have a B-back this year, or should we convert one our other misses at QB to B-back.

For starters, I bet we'll find a guy who doesn't get boat-raced by Puke. The CPJ gang post enough "We can't do any better than this!!" nonsense - they clearly think that losing 3 of 4 to Puke is as good as it gets, as is 2 losing seasons in 3 years.

If you don't think there's anyone who can beat Duke more than once in 4 years, you're part of the problem not the solution.

But it's pointless to talk about now. CPJ isn't going anywhere in the next 5-10 years.

JT was a better quarterback for this offense than Nesbitt. The midline was lost, but we had a true homerun threat when the ball was in JT's hands on the perimeter which offset lack of midline, and he was like 2x better passer.
 
Anybody who thinks recruits are going to Bama instead of GT because of our style of offense needs to be hauled out and shot.

Then they need to be taken to the hospital, put on life support, and required to take an 18 hour class load during their rehab.

GT sucks. It's no fun. It's like military bootcamp for nerds. I've got 2 degrees from Tech, and neither of them was remotely enjoyable to achieve. If my son was a football player, which he isn't, I'd tell him to go anywhere other than Tech. The only thing that would make me want him to go to GT is Paul Johnson. It's honestly a miracle we can field a football team at all.

Clemson players get a movie theater and a water slide. GT players get a stack of textbooks. We are a lemon of a football destination, and without a coach that can turn that lemon into lemonade through trickery and gimmicks, we would never rise to the level of Wake Forest. Get that through your heads, people.

The talent at the top of the 2009 roster was immense, but we also had a lot of roster holes. If I recall, we got scored on at will in some games...even with Derrick Morgan and Morgan Burnett level players on defense (both long NFL careers as starters).

Offensively, that is the most talented I've seen at our skill positions. Nesbitt at QB, Dwyer at BB, Roddy and Allen at AB, BeyBey and Hill at WR....holy crap. That said, the OL was not great. We were starting a converted TE and a walk-on amongst a collection of no-namers. The Iowa team really exposed our OL in the Orange Bowl.

Under CPJ, our talent has regressed. We have not put through many if any elite players on either side of the ball. That is the difference between Tech and some of these other schools. We have a balanced, yet unspectacular roster and win with scheme, where others have NFL talent in spots with the overall level of coaching in the conference improving on top of that...That said, I really believe we have a talented defense this season......but we have no clue how to get the most out of it. That's 100% coaching and may not ever improve unless a change is made.

One more point: I'm tired of CPJ whining about budgets in press conferences. We all understand the landscape, where others have more resources than we have. THAT AIN'T CHANGING! Deal with it. T Boone Pickens ain't walkin' through that door.

It's not possible, but it seems possible because Navy plays a much weaker schedule than we do. I would take any of our QB starters (Calvin Booker excepted) over any of Navy's QB starters — that's no slam on the Navy QB. But TQM and JT5 are both much much more athletically talented that Navy players.

It's like when women get upset when someone says that middle-of-the-pack male tennis players can beat top-ranked female tennis players. They're just not taking into consideration the circumstances in which the ladies have shined.

P.s. I took 6 semester of calc, diff eq, etc. How much of that do I use/remember? Not much.

There's a sliver of truth but mostly hot garbage in this post. Georgia Tech was a gulag 20 years ago but that time has long since passed. A 97% retention rate and ballooning non-engineering majors, combined with Atlanta being a 10x more fun place to be, render these arguments moot.

No we don't have water slides and mini golf like Bama and Clemson, but neither does the rest of this conference. To say that Tech would be Wake Forest without the option is full retart.

well, that's a stupid response. Which coach have we had that didn't get boat raced by Duke at least once? Hell, Bobby Ross got boat raced by Duke 3 years in a row.

If you want it to improve, just changing coaches will not do it.

Let's take Calvin Johnson as an example. For such an extraordinary talent, destined for the NFL, Tech could lure him by explaining Gailey had been OC of the Steelers, Head Coach of the Cowboys, and OC of the Dolphins. He could look forward to competent preparation for the pass-happy pro game. It was a very good decision for him based on what Gailey potentially could provide for him. We have the exact opposite of that now. Nothing Georgia Tech provides has anything to do with a future in the NFL for offensive players. The ones that move forward, Shaq Mason, Demaryius Thomas, Dwyer, Waller, etc., do it in spite of their college experiences.
 
Also keep in mind that it is not certain and likely doubtful that Dwyer and Thomas would have signed at GT under CPJ.

What a complete load of horse shit. Calvin came to GT over GEORGIA, who ran the same system as us plus also had the opportunity to play in the National Title game, because his PARENTS WERE TEACHERS. It had jack squat to do with the system. Especially considering how Chan's system was complete trash. If Calvin cared at all about the system, he would have been a DWAG, and they'd probably have a national championship more recently than 1980.
