He had a lot to say about roster management that went beyond talking about changing recruiting goals. He knows the current roster isn't where he wants it to be. I'm sure he'll treat the current players with respect, but he pretty clearly thinks he's got a talent deficiency on his hands (even though last year was one of CPJ's more talented classes, I think).

I think he just wanted to point out his vision is about recruiting. He started making his recruiting pitch tonight. He felt like he couldn’t afford to say we are incorporating the 3O. He is who he is, and that’s a guy that’s gonna go after the 5 stars to play in a “pro set.”

PJ, in his presser last week, talked about the most recent class and how good it was.
With Charlie Thomas, Juanyeh and some others (we really haven't seen what the 4 stars in that class can do yet), it is a good class.
 
I was a little dismayed when Collins talked about the offense hurting the defense because they practice against it. Which he knows really isn't true after mid August and isn't true for most of the time. Unless you run the same damn offense everyone else is running. And we weren't.
You don't play against your own scheme Saturday. You don't practice against it Monday through Thursday.
I was fairly taken aback that he repeated that canard.

Perhaps there's more to it than CPJ wants to admit. For example, the defense scout teams is practicing against it, and a lot of those players are growing into regular playing roles. And obviously there's the scrimmages and such.

It is kinda true because you dont have your best defense play against your best offense. You have a bunch of kids who didnt make the 1st or 2nd team play against your defense, which isnt really prepping you for the game. Paul Johnson had bad defenses at Southern too.

He said "NFL-based" which doesn't tell us all that much. The offense the Bears run is distinct from the offense the Chargers run, for instance.

If we wanted to run a legit high school offense, we could pluck Nix from whatever high school he's coaching at.

The Bears run a flexbone offense out of the shotgun as their main set. As an aside, it makes me very happy as a Bears fan. The ability to adapt to what CGC has got will be key, as will his ability to create an offensive identity.

He also pointed this out specifically – his point in saying "NFL based" wasn't that we were going to run I-formation or West-Coast or whatever "NFL" means these days – but that he's going to run something that is not perceived as creating a hindrance for players to get to the NFL – and that there's enough variety in the NFL these days that he's got a wide range of options. (But not wide enough to include the 3O!)

When he first said NFL-based it gave me a pause...and then I thought the same as you did here. NFL offenses have become more creative in the last 10 years. Not every team has a perfect OL with Tom Brady in the pocket.

They are likely aware of the talent drop-off we have. We do have some good talent to work with. Just need more of it

Imo, Juanyeh has the highest talent ceiling on the team

Yeah, he’s way of off base. We complained lack of sacks, but how is a DE suppose to effectively work on a pass rush if the Oline he goes against in drills doesn’t pass set, drop and anchor?

Pro style and NFL based pro offense are total different. We’ll have pro attributes but not a pro scheme per se. Zone blocking is NFL based. Smash concept (hitch/corner) is NFL-Based
