Worst loss in last 50 years?

We have a bunch of bad losses. Citadel was a worse loss because of the level of competition.

Yesterday was especially bad because it was lack of effort and focus and BG was the better team on the field.

We lost to Furman a couple of times and one of those was awful. MTSU was bad. We lost to a bad Ted Roof coached Duke team.
I don't think Citadel was worse. They had the 3-O as an equalizer. A death by 1,000 cuts. They didn't dominate us physically, their scheme kept them in the game and 3-4 YPP in the 3-O got them into position and they won.

BG just made us their whipping boy. Physically dominated us. Better in every single phase of the game.

Citadel was by far the worst because the idiot coaching our team did not know the clock rules at the end of the game and basically allowed the clock to run out when we only needed one score to win. Biggest coaching mistake I have ever seen at GT.

That MTSU team back in 2012 was no slouch. We certainly should have beaten them, but they finished 8-4 on the season.

Yesterday was a top 5 all-time loss. The losses to Furman (1983) and Memphis (1981), and even the tie with Furman (17-17) in 1986 was a "loss." Those stand with that loss to Citadel (27-24) in 2019 as the top 5 in my book. The bludgeoning by a poor Dook (41-17) in 2003 vies for a top-5 loss. Just my $.02 worth.

Pretty devastated here.

Not sure what I expected but I definitely allowed the good feelings coming out of the Wake win to cloud my view of where we are. What I saw yesterday was a total lack of preparation on the part of the coaches and a total lack of motivation on the part of the players. You don’t win one conference game and decide you’re so good you don’t have to show up for a G5 team.

King looked so bad I question what he doing in the game.

It starts at the top. I think key is something like 7 and 15 as a head coach. That hire is a head scratcher.

The pick six was bad and a bad throw. I think some of the other “mistakes” are WRs running the wrong route. A few got a talking to on the sideline. I think that is why he ended up focusing on Blaylock; he knows how to run the option routes.

The other Int was a dropped pass.

They were totally unprepared for what BGSU was doing on both sides of the ball. That's coaching.

King didn't have his best day, but at least he was out there swinging. He was 23/37 for 348 yards and 4 TDs. Not his best day by far, but respectable. It was those 2 INTs and that grounding penalty that killed him. Those cost us perhaps 17 points. The O put up 417 total yards. Not good enough but not a bad day.

The issue was BG was scoring so fast that it totally took away our running game.

How a D can be so unprepared is utterly beyond me. We have a large group of DBs that will not tackle and do not cover well. I don't know what Tillman is doing, but something needs to change back there. It would help if we could get a consistent pass rush, but we cannot w/o blitzing and BGSU was running that draw to defeat that.

Running game? We looked like clown running Gibbs up the middle every play we got so few yards per carry.

I mean prove me wrong?
The state of affairs is truly sad when a program's message board is an open state of discussion over which is the worst loss - A 3 win Citadel team playing with a 3rd string quarterback, Northern Illinois on national TV, or Bowling Green when the season was in front of them. Solution? Admit defeat, ask the Southern Conference for invite. You have to ask because it is not a given they will accept us.

Honestly, until we can execute simple tackling techniques we are going to get boat raced by everyone of our remaining opponents. It's been at least 10 years since we had a defense that kept pressure off our offense to execute flawlessly or risk losing the game. We have gone through so many DC's that it seems that no coach can get our kids to play with heart and tenacity on defense. WTF!

Running game wasn't good, but once BGSU started scoring we couldn't afford to try to establish it.

We passed a lot early on and were very successful, so we didn't run much, but we were 2 rushes for 20 yards in the 1st quarter (10 ypc), and 5 for 26 yards in the 2nd quarter (5.1 ypc). That's 7 for 46 yards (6.5 ypc) but is before the muffed punt snap that went for a rushing loss, and a couple of sacks. It was there, but we couldn't afford to establish it since we were trying catch up so fas

What exactly happened on the muffed punt? I didn't see the replay at the game.

"we have academic standards" accepts football players in the portal from literally all the schools tech fans talk öööö about in regards to academics.

Or, a large part of the top player pool out of HS or in the portal simply is interested in GT regardless of academics. The GTAA needs $$$. Unfortunately, what $ they do have seems to be used poorly. TDope's contract to Goof crippled the budget.

It’s indifferent today, a day after the loss. Nobody was indifferent yesterday.
I'm not indifferent. It can change.

I'm frustrated but still hopeful that something like the D we saw at Wake might emerge. That would be enough to get this team to 5-6, or maybe even 6-5.

Things were pretty bleak in 1983, but then it came together the next season, and we beat Alabama, Clemson, and UGAG in 1984 and had a very good 9-win 1985 season. It can change fast. Then it got bleak again, but them came together fast again in 1989 to 1991.

When GOL took over mid-1994 it was really bleak once again. His tenure took off slowly, posting 6-5, 5-6, and 6-6 records in 1995-97 before the 10-2 year in 1998. It took him 3 years to transition from a losing culture to a winning one.

It can happen again.
