Worst loss in last 50 years?

It can happen again.

It can, but as you know the circumstances then and now are so incredibly different. Given that the GTAA is so poorly run, I have little confidence that what resources they do have will be used well. The GTAA is in desperate need of $ and the fan support is the lowest since the early 80s. Things needs to change quickly or GT may be left completely behind.

It could be. All we can do is hope someone makes the changes that need to be made and the team starts showing some heart.

In another post, I just rattled off some names: Gary Faulkner, Joe Wolf, Rick Lewis, and Bubba Hoats. Do you recognize them? Those are the names of a group of DB that we had back in the early 70's. Headhunters all. You might catch a pass, but you would soon regret it. We need those guys back there.

But you have to care. I wonder if this group really does.

What exactly happened on the muffed punt? I didn't see the replay at the game.
maybe a blocker lined up wrong spot or snapper forgot to look.....either way

I'm not indifferent. It can change.

I'm frustrated but still hopeful that something like the D we saw at Wake might emerge. That would be enough to get this team to 5-6, or maybe even 6-5.

Things were pretty bleak in 1983, but then it came together the next season, and we beat Alabama, Clemson, and UGAG in 1984 and had a very good 9-win 1985 season. It can change fast. Then it got bleak again, but them came together fast again in 1989 to 1991.

When GOL took over mid-1994 it was really bleak once again. His tenure took off slowly, posting 6-5, 5-6, and 6-6 records in 1995-97 before the 10-2 year in 1998. It took him 3 years to transition from a losing culture to a winning one.

It can happen again.

Slightly before my time (born in '75). :)

I was trying to explain to my sons that the D's in 84-86 that was the Blackwatch were some bad mofos that I saw as a kid. Pat Swilling was one of my favorites. And right on cue, BG started shredding the D and running through poor tackling attempts and making a general mockery of the D and Thacker of course.

But yeah, this D is really painful and I do think it has much more to do with Thacker than having the worst talent in Div. 1 on that side of the ball.

I was under the impression that our secondary was going to be pretty good. I understand the problem if the DL gives the QB all day but that's not the problem in our case. So either what I heard was not accurate or they aren't being coached well. I saw a couple things yesterday that point directly at game preparation and not at talent or DL or anything else - some guys seem to have taken the week off.

If you wanted to see good Tech D, those were the teams. But then, Carson was a darned good D coach. It's what he did. Those "Steel Curtain" D's that Pittsburgh Steelers had in the mid-70's were his D's. He left Tech and became the Pittsburgh Steelers' DC... about the time you were born. Ha!

Part of it for me is that I’m kind of beaten into indifference at this point. I don’t really feel anything about this loss.

But I’ve also seen enough to know that “it’s never as good or bad as it seems.” This was a bad loss, but it doesn’t really change my expectations for the team that much. We’re not going to lose out, and we may win one we’re not supposed to. We probably shot our bowl hopes in the foot, but it’s not the end of the world.

I didn’t buy the hype when some of you were crowning King for the Heisman and I don’t buy that we will never win again.

I guess Citadel was worse, but we did give Citadel a game and did not give up 38 straight points. Also, I think our talent level is much better now than it was versus Citadel.
Citadel was the one single team we scheduled in 2019 that was supposed to be a guaranteed win. They are literally in a lower division of D1 football. That game should have never been a game at all. Regardless of our forced "monumental" transition on offense.

I thought we had a lot of turnover on the secondary

And they ran an offense designed to be an equalizer. BG ran the same offense we've seen all season and we ööööed it up.

I have always joked when we have a team in a 2nd and 3rd and more than 10 yards that "they got us just where they want us". We showed yesterday, once again, that a 2nd or 3rd and long for the other team is more of a slight inconvenience to them. Pitch and catch to wide open WR's, TE's, RB's in the flats. QB lumbering for 15 to get a first down.

I actually did this right before the QB clowned us for 16 on 3rd & 15

Apathy, it is ingrained in our fanbase and except for a handful of intermittent outbursts of old men yelling at the clouds, we’re mostly numb and accepting of what’s happening.

For myself, I’m trying to be patient and allow time for Key and Batt to right the ship. Tough having endured Retodd and clown for 4 years, but it’s what it’s gonna take.

They addressed Thacker partly and for that I’m grateful. Not sure about Sherrer. I’d be ok with some schematic screw ups, but if we come out unmotivated, disinterested, etc against da U and he doesn’t immediately bench the offenders I’ll be clamoring for him to be next. I can’t stand much more of GT players going thru the motions. Hit somebody and make it hurt even it’s the wrong guy.

no, they just don't create a lot of turnovers.

We were bringing back Brooks, after a really good season, Powell-Lee, after a stellar freshman campaign, and King after missing a year for an injury. So we were supposed to be set at safety. Though we lost Zamari to Ole Miss, we were bringing back most of our other top options at corner and nickel.

I'm at least slightly okay with a G5 team playing lights out and beating a P5 team playing bad, that's going to happen 1% of the time. But a P5 should never lose to an FCS team.

Then we disagree. If The Citadel was running a shotgun spread, I'd be embarrassed. Citadel ran the triple and we weren't disciplined enough to stop the death by 1000 cuts. BG just dominated us the way we dominated SC State

I literally told my wife “I wonder how we’re gonna give up this first down”

I ööööed around and found out.
You know why? I saw one of our LB's looking to your seats for inspiration and seeing STRANGERS there. Lesser people. He then hung his head and muttered "why even bother if Mr. Bamalama can't be here"

I’ll have you know there were GT fans in those seats.
