Write the AD now. No More AAC.

UCF had more to gain from this game than we did. I wish we had canceled the series when they weaseled out of the game a few years ago.
Given the number of recruits available in the Atlanta area, we should have out of conference teams beating down our door to play at Grant Field.

We would have gained nothing playing a patsy. Also, our goal is to recruit higher than UCF. If a student athlete can't tell the difference in playing for a P5 program at one of the nations' highest ranked Universities/Institute, then perhaps he deserves to play at UCF and grab that UCF education.

So it’s settled, we kick out Boston college and wake and add Notre dame and UCF

I stole this pic off the Twitter, but goddammit this play pissed me off. The ref is looking right at it.

This one infuriated me. The ref is staring right at the hold.

You have to view this from the official's perspective. The UCF player is holding back the Tech player to keep him from being injured in case of a head to head collision with the quarterback. Seems perfectly understandable.

One of the worst things I saw re: officiating is the assigned AAC crew, which made me long for an ACC crew - something I never thought I'd say - were woefully out of shape and consistently out of position to make calls. There's a reason they're not working in a P5 conference.

That said, Heupel will probably be the chosen one - esp as a former Sooner QB - when Lincoln Riley finally gets lured away from Norman to the NFL.

But overall, the zebras didn't cost us the game. Their Jimmies beat our Joes. We're getting better, but are about two years away.
I disagree. The UCF refs showed great fitness and cardio when they rushed the ball in place and started the play when their team had the ball. They took their normal time and normal checks when we had it. The contrast got ludicrous when they were in hurry-up mode.

This gave our db's fits, and caused most of our blown coverages, as well as the totally intentional ticky-tack substitution flags.

There was at least two instances where UCF subbed on plays near their sideline where the refs did not hold the snap to let us sub in kind. Must be a UCF thing to sub close to the sideline and see if they can get away with still going hurry up

The Syracuse announcers today said refs have to hold the start of play this year until the defense has a chance to substitute and get off the field. Anyone know about this?

Yes. It’s part of why the refs were terrible and AAC teams shouldn’t be scheduled.

I believe the rule is that if the offense substitutes players, the defense has to be allowed time to substitute before the ref whistles the ball in play. If the offense does not substitute, the defense does not get this allowance.

They missed UCF substitutions at least twice in their haste to spot the ball. Both times were plays to the UCF sideline where a player exited quick after the play and another ran on. I guarantee you that is part of the UCF gameplan to sub after plays near their own sideline and quickly get to the LOS and hope the refs don't catch the sub and hold up play for the defense.
It is actually a genius plan to try it. Nothing illegal about it. It is like running a trick on the refs. They hustle to spot the ball, never see your sub because of the play being near the sideline. Since UCF doesn't huddle, they have a fresh player on the field and the opposing defense doesn't get to respond

They are the better team. But they are also a directional school in Disney world so jokes on them. No one cares about ucf

This is such a Tech thing to say. Outside of our GT bubble this makes us sound like childish pricks with inferiority issues.

They are the Georgia State of Florida - easy as hell to get into and somewhere around a million students. If that makes us seem childish and have a complex, so be it...

I think you are right about UCF strategically tricking the refs into breaking the substitution rules. This makes me wonder about another issue. I noticed the actual spring the refs were doing to get the ball placed for UCF which, of course, played into the plan you mentioned. I have not seen that before, where the ref were in as big a hurry as the offense.

What is the standard for how fast the ball needs to be placed? I am not sure I have ever seen this discussed. I know the refs do not want to help the defense, but it seems they should not go out of their way to help a hurry-up offense either.

It's the same thing that happens after a first down.

Mid 1Q after first down. Clock stops. The ref placing the ball down on the spot likely fumbles it 7 times trying to set it right, the chain gang just sort meanders down 10 yards and trips over themselves no less than 3 times, umpire causally blows it ready for play when the clown show is over, etc. Though, at the end of either half with an O playing hurry up, everyone does those same responsibilities at warp speed and with professional precision.

The lack of a standard makes we wish that CFB would move to NFL clock rules (clock keeps moving but a 2:00 warning).
