the beginning of '99 saw us in the national title hunt and the top 10 for most of the season, falling out of that in early November. And a screwed-over Heisman candidacy. So yes, "most of '99" was more fun to me than barely scraping by Southern at home then losing consecutively to Duke & UNC and never reaching the top 10. The end of 2014 was awesome but meant little, as we didn't win the ACC nor make the CFP. We then completely threw away any 2014 gains very quickly the following season.

The end of '98 was a ton of fun too. Beating the mutts for the first time in 7 years and then beating hated Notre Dame in a New Year's Day bowl (as ACC Co-Champs, back when there weren't 80+ bowl invites) with the knowledge that JoeHam and that WR crew with Fridge's O was coming back in '99....sublime.
Not only is your description of 2014 factually inaccurate, it is still unbelievable that you would downplay our success to that degree. Meant little? Are you ööööing kidding me? We had arguably the best offense in the entire country, whipped UGA’s ass in their own house, and destroyed a Miss State team in the Orange Bowl that had spent a large chunk of the season at #1. We had an incredible amount of momentum going into 2015, and had we been able to capitalize, would have really changed the perception of the program.

If you want to criticize CPJ for not recruiting well enough to sustain the successes of 2009 and 2014, I’ll agree with you. But let’s not pretend that both of those seasons were anything other than wildly successful by GT standards.

This is a stupid argument. Point blank. We were already competing for division titles on a yearly basis under CPJ and even Gailey, to a lesser degree. Other than the stretch where Clemson was too dominant to compete with, we had at least an outside shot at the ACC title just about every single season.

We are SO far from that right now that it’s unbelievable. We have to stop with this revisionist history that we were in the cellar. We were a top 4-5 team in the ACC throughout PJ’s tenure, and nearly won our division in his last season. Things had gotten stale and it was probably time for a change, but we weren’t a losing program until Collins took over, so if we have to get “back” to anything, it’s because Collins took us down in the first place.

I am lost. When the hell ever was our ceiling considered by anybody 3 wins?

So far, so ungood re: Collins. I've not remotely argued that point. But pretending we were annual contenders in the ACC is revisionist history. We were a light year or 5 behind Clemson the last 5 years he was here and were losing just as badly to them as CGC has. We didn't 'nearly win the division' in 2018 either. Attendance and interest was almost non-existent and we were rightfully viewed as just a P5 version of a service academy, albeit with a much worse defense.

Just because CGC has sucked so far is no reason to revise history into thinking we were on the verge of greatness when PJ departed. We weren't and he knew it.

Are we really at the point where our fans are arguing about which really good season was more pathetic?

We have jumped the sea bass.

We were literally a single play from winning the division in 2018. How much closer could we be?

And the Clemson comparison doesn’t mean much. They were 1B to Bama’s 1A during that stretch. Nobody was competing with them. That would be like saying O’Leary sucked because FSU kicked his ass.

And nice strawman in the last part. I said things were stale and it was time for a change. We were still a good team, but probably weren’t going to be great again. The point isn’t that we were going back to the Orange Bowl or anything, it’s that we were still winning games and competitive with teams outside the top 3 until Collins took us into the basement. I will not accept the lie that we were ööööing Vandy or something and needed to be resurrected.

I'd take sucking badly for a few years during a rebuild, rebounding and starting to compete again in the upper tier of the ACC rather than having a 3-loss season as our ceiling.
Are you expecting the rebound to happen in the offseason or something? We have 3 games left in the 3rd CGC season and we are trending down on defense. Offense remains to be seen, but I have not seen anything that gives me confidence this is the staff that will get us competing for ACC championships consistently.

SO WAS EVERY OTHER TEAM IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL EXCEPT BAMA!!

If we had this momentum going into 2015, explain why it didn't move the meter with Recruiting and why it didn't move the meter with Ticket Sales for 2015.

The local Sports Media barely mentioned GT FB, in 2014 and 2015.

You guys and your revisionist history is amusing, you make it seem like GT FB was must see TV, we played more noon Games than FCS Programs, our Recruiting was pedestrian at best.

An OB with an ACC Runner up and an SEC also ran that didn't make their Conf CG was one of the lowest rated NY6 Bowls since the CFP Era begin.

I prefer to focus on 2021 & beyond, but I do like an accurate telling of what happened in the past.

There was a lot of hype in early 2015. ESPN was calling our offense the “Unstoppable Machine of Death and Destruction” or something like that on an weekly basis. Ticket sales WERE up. We were highly ranked and got a lot of publicity. We scored 134 points in our first two games even though we ran a clock-killing offense.

Then half our team got injured, we öööö the bed, and Clemson went to the National Championship, this fully destroying our momentum.

Your problem is that YOU didn’t appreciate the season since you hated the coach so much. The rest of us had a completely different experience.

Keep ööööting on 2014. It may have been a season we don’t see in a while

So .... we need to keep looking for a coach?

Because the only thing this coach is transforming the program to is to a laughingstock.
I hope he turns it around. I do.
I just don't think he will. I think the challenge far exceeds his grasp.
it‘s hard to see it happening when the only things he is good at developing is excuses.

Please name the Teams we scored these 134 points on?

Not crapping on 2014.

If you would stop being so feminine & emotional, you would understand that I am telling you how that season looked from the perspective of a Top50 Recruit in the State of GA, they ignored us, and they ignored 2014.

Needing bad officiating to beat GA Southern, and losing to bad Duke & UNC Teams makes the season "less special" (I already have admitted it was better than anything so far from CGC, just don't over romanticize 2014 and we'll be fine)

I regret that I can only poo this dipshit once per post.

So you don't know how college football works? We come in more experienced next season. Another year of S&C. A team like Pitt graduates everyone.

In your world, I'm guessing Clemson is still the #2 team in the country based on last season.
