You're not good at this.

You erroneously said 2014 was Duke's "greatest season to date". It wasn't. Maybe 3rd but nowhere near 1st. 2013, they were first in the ACC and had 10 wins to 2014's 2nd place (to us, fercrissakes), 9-win season.

Us losing to uga (stopping ALL-CAPPING those öööööööööööös) was a PJ home choke job. It has nothing to do with Puke. Up 20 and losing at home to the mutts is inexcusable, as was the '09 loss.
You added the UGA (and that’s just grammatically correct, figured we would know that as Tech guys) comment, so I expanded on it. And I mean CPJ won 3 times at Sanford. Duke had two insane seasons back to back, their first since 1989… and you’re acting like losing to them was a bad thing? We beat them, and pretty fairhandedly, in 2013 when they won the coastal, so I mean I guess it was payback.

He beat Jim Tressel in the championship game in 1999.
How often did he beat Tressel for Blue Chip Recruits (4* & higher) when they were both P5 HCs, Tressesl at Ohio State, CPJ at GT?

Him beating Tressel at the lower rungs of CFB didn't translate to the P5 Level, why can't you understand that?

I'm thoroughly convinced most of the PJ Fan Club would absolutely love us to be on-par with the service academies as our annual ceiling.
I’m thoroughly convinced most of the GC Fan Club would absolutely love us to be on-par with Vanderbilt and Washington State, bottom tear in our conference and maxing out at 3 wins each season.

öööö uga and öööö all-capping them. 'dwag' isn't grammatically correct either - I'm still using it.

PJ also lost every home game vs the mutts. Losing to Duke is always a bad thing, esp. during the hallowed year of 2014.

Yeah, I certainly consider it to be a success when we lost to a team who lost to the 15th ranked team in the Sun Bowl. That just shouts success!

I consider the 2014 season a success. We obviously have different definitions of success. 11 wins seems more than 3. But, that is just me. The fact is that CPJ's shortcoming was recruiting. He should have hired a better recruiting staff and done better at it. However, he managed to overcome that shortcoming and win some games. Gailey and O'Leary recruited well at times but they were never consistently on par with UGA and Clemson and other top teams. O'Leary won with his players and Gailey kept it even and consistent. The good news is that we now have a coach that has promised to lift Tech to new heights above both of those where we can both recruit on the same level as UGA, Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, FSU, etc. and win a record number of games and beat UGA regularly. Then this whole conversation will be moot. Posters will not have to bring up past losses past rosters to excuse the current coaches roster and others will not have to pine to return to the past. And all will be well in Stingtalkland.

literally no one is happy with GC's performance yet plenty of the PJ Fan Club have pointed with pride to the 2018 season as the pinnacle of achievement and as proof that PJ's system could win at a big level even as it was getting blown out by Clemson and the mutts and a forgettable bowl loss.

You’re acting like Duke is a rival or something. Duke had two great years where they were really competitive in the coastal. We killed them the year they won the ACC and they barely beat us the year we won.

Who posted 2018 is the pinnacle of achievement? Granted I liked being in the motor city bowl or whatever it was compared to the muddy hole we’re in now. If I remember correctly, which I do, most of the CPJ defenders say the pinnacle was 2014, where we beat Dak Prescott and Mississippi State in the Orange Bowl and barely lost to FSU in the ACC Championship. 2009 was close behind that as we barely lose to Iowa in the orange Bowl and beat Clemson in the ACC Championship

losses to uga and Iowa in 2009 and losses to Duke, UNC, and FSU in 2014. 2014 was a great season - a successful season - and beating the SEC's 3rd place team was a ton of fun though losing to CrabLegs in the ACC-CG was not.

The finish to 1998, and most of 99 and all of 1990 were more fun.

I'd take that rather than a completely missing floor scratching and clawing our way to almost beating a 3-4 VT team or a 4-4 Miami team.

I'd take sucking badly for a few years during a rebuild, rebounding and starting to compete again in the upper tier of the ACC rather than having a 3-loss season as our ceiling.

I’ll give you 90, but if you’re telling me that winning the orange bowl over Mississippi state and beating UGA that year, while losing to a team in the playoffs by 2 POINTS? Wasn’t more fun than losing to Miami in the gator bowl along with a 7-5 UVA team, and losing to a 4-7 Boston college and an 11-2 FSU? You’re crazy

The season was a success. I just reject the idea that the Duke game was part of the success.
