You Can Succeed in Recruiting at Tech

We don't recruit Georgia well because we yearly lose to ugag. We can be a 10 win team each year and will still be considered 2nd rate as long as we don't win more in that series. It is possible to pull a good class every now and again but we aren't going to do it consistently. Recruiting players from outside the south is a great idea but the bottom line is that .... the better teams in the SEC beat other teams that recruit those same players. Like it or not ugag is one of the better SEC teams. The tallent is in the southeast. To find a way to beat ugag more than once a decade GT is going to have to get good players. 1) Find a way to be competitive with ugag for a couple of years. 2) Figure out a way to bend a hair on the academics so that it would be more than a flash in the pan.
There are thousands of Georgians that want an instate school to spend money on other than georgy. No reason GT cannot be that team.

All we have to do is beat UGA and then the recruits will come? Well sheet, that was easy.

And what makes ^^^ all the more gut-wrenching is that Tech should have won 4 of the last 7 and 7 of the last 15. An even series over that time period would have us in a completely different position than we're in today.

We focus on this but this really is not true. Football is truly a game of matchups and the truth is we do not match up with UGA well. Richt give him credit has done a great job of exploiting the matchups with us. Last year go after the ball from our small backs and take advantage of our soft secondary coverage. 2010 run all over us when we don't expect it etc..

I thought I would never say this but if we really want to recruit better in the state of GA we need to drop/modify the series. As one poster pointed out we cannot have 5% of the GA population put Tech as the number 1 team. This is very unusual when there are two major teams in a state to have that low of a number. It can be in the 30's for the second team but not under 10%. This is what hurts our recruiting in state.

If we drop the series IMHO our popularity goes up and we truly become the second team in the state where 30% or so of the fans pick us as their team.

Otherwise to truly compete the hill is going to have to dramatically increase exceptions.

For all those that talk about UGA recruiting remember their ENTIRE athletic program is over 70% exceptions for admittance. How are supposed to compete with that? Not amount of additional majors etc is going to compensate at that level.

Academics and sports at UGA are a joke.

worst post ever

We need to move the series to the first three games of the season. If we don'd do that, we may as well drop the series. We can't keep doing the same thing and hope for the best.

Exactly what I have been saying for 15 years. Play them early, incorporate charities to raise money, kick their a$$ and then start playing for the ACCCG.

I like playing them early too.. they are sure to have a few suspended from summer activities

You didn't understand what I wrote. Tech won '98, '99, '00, '08, should have won '06, '09, '10, and could have won '04 and '05. That is at least 7 of the last 15. Except for a few games, ugag has never dominated Tech like everyone says. Nearly every game has been close, and if a few of them had gone the other way, our recruiting would be in a different place than it is now.

A loss is a loss is a loss....regardless of whether the margin was 50 points or 1 point. When they win 95% of the games over a 30 year stretch, that's pretty öööö dominating.

A 50-point loss is not the same as a 1-point loss, in terms of competition. In spite of the current perception, Tech has been competitive against ugag over the last 15 years; the gap is not as big as many believe.

One win in twelve years is a pretty large gap. Who are you kidding? These are the moral victories our alumni keep using as a crutch to tolerate another ten years of losing to UGA. Until we fundamentally change our approach to our rival, we will continue to lose to them.
