Confirmed: ND to make a deal with ACC. 5 FB games/year, full member in others

Re: Rumor: ND to make a deal with ACC

I have a bigger suspiscion that the talks are going the other direction, in order to get NBC Sports an eclusive college sports conference.

Either way the money and exposure are increased for the ACC.

Does the football exclusion mean ND is not contractually bound to the $50mm buyout and the buyout for full members only?

Why are you discounting the impact they will make in non-football sports?
Because there is only one non-football sport that counts, and the ACC didn't need to dilute itself further in that. If this is a basketball move, then that makes it even worse, since it entrenches the TRM's point of view of the conference even further.

If ND is stuck with the 50mil buyout no matter what, then it's not too terrible a move I suppose, because it means they'll never be able to compete for a conference championship unless they go full member and compete for ourse. It paints them into a corner.

If they're not subject to the buyout, then it's just flat stupidity all around.

pretty much agree

+1, just spoke to a coworker who is a ND grad and avid fan and he said NBC is really pushing their sports network that has nothing on it. They have a whole channel that can be dedicated to ACC sports, kind of like CBS gets the best SEC games while ESPN gets the leftovers.

Also why not UCONN at #16? They have no baggage, and are a cupcake football team to balance schedules out, and would make basketball ridiculous (mens and womens.) Ped State is a black hole for $$ over the next 4 years

I would love having an entire channel and network dedicated to our conference alone, and guaranteed having at least 2 games on National Broadcasts every Saturday, during football season, and then having an ACC game of the week in non-football sports as well. That would be sweet!

I wouldn't mind a big deal with NBC, but our ESPN deal doesn't expire until 2021. As far as I know, there is no early out clause on it. We can renegotiate due to membership changes, but we're locked to ESPN until the deal is over.

UConn sucks at football and academics. No thanks.

I'd like to know what kind of "out" clause the ACC has in case a prettier girl shows up to the dance. The limited commitment should work both ways.

Nope, it is a good move even without the buyout (not as good but still good).

Why? two/three Notre Dame games will add millions to the value of the ACC TV package, not to mention the value of ND basketball for TV. Also cannot hurt recruiting to have the ND games. Also will help raise the profile of ACC football in the offseason nationally since ND fans will now follow our teams.

Obviously this increases the chances of landing ND as a full member eventually. That is huge as well.

Oooooo.

That would be HUGE. HUGE.

UConn is much better than FSU and ranks close to UMD, Pitt, and Syracuse. Unfortunately this ranking ties them with UGA: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandr.../rankings/national-universities/spp+50/page+2

Ped State isn't much better

The first questions that come to my mind are:

- Who gets the five games in the ACC and how are they decided each year

- How do the Irish play into the ACC bowl contracts, especially the Orange

I was wondering about the bowl contracts too. Wonder what they worked out on bowl revenue sharing.

If we're locked in to the deal, why would ESPN ever negotiate?

Gay, I was participating in that thread. What's with the premature move to the dungeon?

The Jacket just has to drink 5/9th of SEB's urine.

I think it is a good move...no doubt...just wish it didnt look like the ACC was bowing down to the almighty Notre Dame....

How is bowing down when Notre Dame has been forced to accept 5 football games, which is much farther down the aisle than any conference before?

Landing Notre Dame is the biggest improvement the ACC has made since adding us.
