My sources say Ted Roof for DC

We need a poll. I'm curious of the approve/disapprove ratio. I bet it's close to 50/50.

26 year season ticket holder here and I saw Roof's crap before. Now we are dumb enough to hire him back after he sucked while he was here before??

Sorry Paul, I was on your bandwagon since day 1, but now I am off. I just don't get the hire, this is insanity! Doing the same thing over and over (hiring a re-tread) and expecting different results.

Hope we can scrore 50 pts a game, gosh know we are gonna give up a ton with Roof as DC. I warned my Auburn buddies when they hired him, he sucked. Now we get him back, God help us!!

:furious:

I agree with what you said. But you are full of crap. in 2010 auburn averaged 68 plays a game and the defense averaged 68 plays a game

so the premise of your point is full of it. But if AU did run 90 plays a game then I do agree, it hurts your D.

The fact is they didn't. Not close. They were right at NCAA avg.

Maybe, but Auburn tended to score quickly with Cam back there so the defense was undoubtedly out there longer than a Cam-less offense.

One thing to consider with Roof's AU defense is that Malzahn played no-huddle hurry-up. More plays for AU meant more plays for opposing teams. So Roof's defensive points allowed numbers might be inflated.

Was pretty good last year.

Is it really hard to imagine that someone could improve at their job over the course of 10+ seasons?

:bowrofl:

This is the most irrational reaction to a solid coordinator hire I have ever seen.

Just decided to not buy season tickets. Ted and his prevent Defense will cost us more games that the Offense can win us.

Maybe he should join Nix at that Bama High School.

Well, we know CCK and Lance Thompson were on that list.

actually lance was not on that list. And I would love for ted to bring him.

between roof and cck, i take roof barely for the mere fact he at least has done it.

I like the guy from WKU. I think taking a look at Rutgers DC and bowling green DC. Rutgers DC would be intriguing.

Seriously???!!!! You guys are dumb if you think Ted was the problem at Auburn. Did you see their defense last year? Worse than when Ted was there.

yes, this was my point above. Some still don't guy it though.

Don't be confused as to Ted Roof the DC and Ted Roof the DC under O'Leary. I've been told by quite a few people with ties to the program that Roof wanted to run a more aggressive defense but O'Leary dictated that we run zone coverages in the secondary and force teams to march the ball down the field.

I, for one, like this hire a lot.

This was the exact reason he left Auburn, he wanted to run multiple looks out the 4-3 and play very little zone and play aggressive blitzing out of bump and run man covarage...Chizik wanted him to run a conservative, bend but dont break D. Hopefully CPJ lets him do his thing and play some aggressive D, I'm so sick from seeing the soft, passive defenses that Groh had here.

That offense might have led the nation in 3 and outs. That also puts a little extra pressure on the defense.

Auburn 2010 was an excellent defense, number 8 in the country in football outsiders. The issue is not the number of plays but the number of possessions. Auburn had an average number of plays, but many more of those scored compared to a typical offense.

A defense is not ultimately measured on number of points, but on number of points per opposing possession. And even that has to be adjusted for the other team's starting position.

Auburn 2009 was mediocre, #42, and Auburn 2011 was terrible, #92. But 2010 was a very good defense.

we don't get it because your point is based on made up facts.

AU didn't run that many plays a game.

Your point is totally true for a oregon or clemson. Not AU
