Tim Byerly

Have seen both "knee sprain" and "torn ACL". Then there are different severities of ACL tear, right. Could be partial or complete. I don't know if it is possible to recover from any ACL tear without surgery.

A partial tear can heal without surgery.

CPJ will burn redshirts before he turns the throttle over to Swilling.

Hypothetically speaking, if the injury ends up being bad and Timmy has to miss the rest of the season, wouldn't he be able to request a Medical RS?

What we really lose with TB out is the ability to sustain drives and /or maintain momentum in games where JT gets his ankle tweaked or has to go through a concussion protocol or whatever.

If JT were out for the season even with TB the season is totally different. But TB could keep us in games when JT has to sit out some snaps or a series or two. (I'm sure you all remember JFN needing a spell at various points in 08-09. UGA 08 comes to mind in particular.)

With TB out, those moments go from offense juggernaut to offense competence to "don't fumble so we can hurry up and punt." Not good.

yes, but he'd have to want to come back to school and such. I imagine he's pretty close to being done.

Yes...because he was injured before the 4th game. He is doing really well on the business contacts front though and has a lot of solid job opportunities when he graduates either December or May. I am not sure he would want a 6th year if he did end up having surgery for a torn ligament. We just need to wait a few days and see what the extent is.

Another big issue people are not talking about is that the staff really wants Campbell to keep his redshirt so that he is would have three years left to play beginning in 2017. So...somehow Jordan and Martenson would have to hold down the back-up role and we have to hope JT never misses a game.

He already redshirted. He wouldn't get a 6th year

Yes....he would be eligible to apply for a 6th year...whether or not it is granted would be a different story as he did not lose two years due to injury. Errin Joe is also eligible to apply or a 6th year to play four.

you can get a 6th year clock extension if you prove that you lost 2 seasons out of your control... the medical hardship waiver is one of them but he'd need to show another. I don't know if a transfer suffices... probably not.

A second year? I don't get what you mean. Missing two seasons from this injury?

If an athlete is injured twice then he can often get an extension and play his 4 years in 6 years instead of the normal 5.

Tim started college in 2011. Normally, regardless of everything else, 2015 has to be his last year because you only get 5 years in college football.

But you can get a 6th year of eligibility if you can prove that you lost 2 seasons (don't have to be consecutive) out of your control. It could be a medical hardship, family hardship, whatever.

2011 - RS'd did not play
2012 - transfer did not play
2013 - played
2014 - played
2015 - medical hardship did not play

so if his RS or his transfer year are accepted as a "2nd year of sitting out beyond his control" then he could get a 6th year of eligibility.

Oh, I get you. I thought the injury just had to take place within the first three games or something.

A medical redshirt is in addition to the standard redshirt.

A redshirt season is when you don't play at all for a year, you apply for a redshirt and that year doesn't count towards your 4 years of eligibility.

A medical redshirt is if you play in less than 30% of a teams game and sustain a season ending injury. Then you can apply for a medical redshirt (if you haven't already taken a redshirt season).

You can only redshirt once, whether it is a medical or otherwise.

After a Players 5 year clock has expired they can also apply for a medical hardship (different than a medic redshirt) if they sustained injuries that cost them 2 or more seasons. This is when a player is granted a sixth year (rarely happens).
