Academics

please dont ever say that to my face unless you are prepared to back it up

Wow, insults, lies, and now threats.

You should really consider whether discussion boards are the right place for you if it is so stressful to have your opinions challenged.

My preference is that, as bad as Reggie was playing in the Duke game, TB should have been given a series. By NOT giving him a series in the Duke game, it made it more difficult for Nix/Gailey to put him in in the GA game.

I assume you mean the UNC game? TB played almost the whole second half against Duke. He looked great doing it, too, made some mistakes but was clearly better than the other guy.

you have no right to call me a liar, i didnt threaten you, i am trying to remind you that just because your hiding behind a keyboard doesnt mean you should treat the conversation any different than you would if you were speaking to someone face to face.

so, with me, you should consider that, because i think it weak to make statements like yours over the internet. if you are willing to make them face to face, i would be curious how your behavior changes when you see me...

i really didnt, but i apologize if thats how it came across ... kinda idiotic

That's hilarious right there, give a half-hearted apology for calling all of us that disagree with you idiots, and then call me idiotic again in the same post.

BTW, Reggie Ball stunk against UGAg and Wake Forest, and hindered our ability to win those games. Now call me an idiot for saying that.

Settle down BevisCzar.
Settle down mmBevis.
Settle down BarrelOBevis.

It's clear that Reggie sucked. When you would have won a game by substituting every attempted pass with a spike, there's no arguing the point.

What's unclear is whether or not Bennett actually sucked that much more than Reggie did in practice.

I can't imagine it, so I certainly would have subbed him in the UGA game at the very minimum, possibly in the UNC game, and certainly in the Clemson game due to injury. But I don't know how bad Taylor looked in practice either.

beej67,
thinks this thread is nearing a lock

You might think that's the case, but Charlie the Tuna is arguing the point. According to him the QB's play "gave us a chance to win" the UGAg game.

i see what you are saying, but i still have two opposing opinions

a) i dont think rb is the kind of guy that can shake off being taken out easily and it would probably have to be tb from then on

b) for example, against UGA, when would you have made the substitution - still no one has answered that except BoR who said he would have started TB.

it would have worked perhaps, if that had been done along the way for the previous years, but it hadnt and i think it would have been a changing point for the team and for rb

anyways.. again, tb is the qb now and its a whole new year. rb is in the NFL so everyone should be happy.

a.) Oh no? He could not "shake out" being pulled!! So what, could he have been any worse than he was.

b.) Yes, for me Reggie would have been pulled at some point between the Miami game and the UGA game. More than likely, as the coach, I would have pulled him early in the Duke game and let TB get some valuable minutes going into the UGA game.

The problem Gailey had by the time UGA rolled around was the entire offensive gameplan and practice beforehand was deisgned around Reggie's game. So hence they didn't have a back-up plan when Reggie tanked. The fact that he was going to tank was obvious to me because his production steadily went downhill from the VT game and he has a knack for blowing up in the UGA game.

the kind of comments you made, like the one about reggies contribution being like argentinas in ww2, have no substantive value to the conversation and only serve to embarrass a former player. to me that is self-destructive behaviour, and, i must say, kinda idiotic

Here's the thing. This board should be like your average tailgate conversation. I'd hear the above joke made at about any tailgate and it would be hysterical. I know many of the main Hivers would crack up laughing and agree with mm42, but if it comes to putting it on a message board, they just wouldn't do it because they honestly think that message boards are a source of media and they are not. If you want processed posts designed to only be reflective of everything dandy in the world, go to the Hive.

I want to be able to say things candidly here and that's what gtfan and beeware have given us with this forum. It should be like every other tailgate you've been to.

Lets not put more substance in these boards than there should be. There's a mentality that started at the hive that the posters need to somehow validate their importance on the boards so they carry on over there like they are "representing GT" at all times. And I think that's ridiculous. We're fans. Let us be fans. This is what fans do.

BTW Beej, when are you going to sig mm42's latest comment about WW2 and Reggie?

calling someone an idiot is way different from calling their actions idiotic. one is related to the act, the other the person

i thought what you did was idiotic (which is what i said at the end) as opposed to calling you an idiot, for which i apologized

can we quit now?

so, if you want a discussion, then please do so. i would like to have your opinion on WHEN rb should have been benched in the UGA game.

He should have been benched in the Clemson game. With any luck, after that he would not have seen the field for UGAg. Now call that an idiotic opinion. Or do you think being down 31-7 was "giving us a chance" to win the Clemson game?

just an innocent bystander here... but, do you always have to have the last word, buzzczar?

you have come off as very belligerent in this thread.

i noticed that. really, not in general, but it is one of my peeves that we ridicule our own guys, despite their shortcomings. Also, the tendency of sports fans to pull stats out and apply them completely incorrectly also drives me nuts, because these people should know that this is a big no no and has absolutely no value from an analytic standpoint

sorry

im actually a pretty nice guy, more interested in fun than arguement, although the Dawg fan who's flag I set on fire in the MGT lot may not agree 100%

btw, did you get my reply to your PM to me?

BTW Beej, when are you going to sig mm42's latest comment about WW2 and Reggie?

HOW DARE YOU QUESTION MY CHOICE TO LEAVE WRACERX IN MY SIG. I AM THE COACH, NOT YOU. JUST FOR THAT, I WILL LEAVE HIM IN MY SIG EVEN IF HE TANKS IN THE UGA GAME.

;)

Also, the tendency of sports fans to pull stats out and apply them completely incorrectly also drives me nuts.

So does bad grammar, like using a double adverb which is completely incorrect.

You really need to drop this subject. You are wrong. There is no way you can show me through stats, common knowledge, common sense, analysis, or any other basis that Chan Gailey was right in keeping Reggie Ball in the UGA game or the Wake game unless Taylor was injured and he wasn't. There is no solid reasoning for it. It was a stupid error by our coaches. THAT IS WHAT WE ARE ALL SAYING.

No one is taking shots at Reggie Ball that haven't been said or discussed a thousand times before. If this kind of talk bothers you, go to the Hive and post there. Like I said, this is your common tailgate. If you said at my tailgate what you have maintained in this thread, people would throw beer and peanuts at you and tell you to "shut the f**k up".

No stats have been applied incorrectly here anyway, that's just ignorance to say that. Stats have been quoted to show how bad a certain player performed in a certain game. You could pick any 10 ways from Sunday to demonstrate how rotten that performance was, the stats are just a convenient measuring stick.

In an earlier thread I pointed out the relative performance of the QBs compared to the competition, and it was pitiful:

Passing Efficiency allowed, team by team:

vs. UNC

unc.JPG

vs. Georgia

vs. Wake

3.JPG

All of these performances by Ball were beyond horrible and crippled our ability to score points in all three games.

Then, suddenly, against West Virginia:

vs. West Virginia

We had the 2nd-best passing offense they had seen all season, behind only Brohm and Louisville.

Magic? Coincidence? Coaching? Or QB change?

I assume you mean the UNC game? TB played almost the whole second half against Duke. He looked great doing it, too, made some mistakes but was clearly better than the other guy.

I think that is correct, but my memory is foggy despite being at all those games...

I just read an ajc article that mentioned the academic status of Pat Clark and Cord Howard as "resolved". Does anyone have any other inside information as to their status?

Should be finalized this week I'm hearing. Latest reports were that Clark would be ok. Have not heard much about Cord. For some reason it hasnt been resolved yet, I will try to gather some things tomorrow at work and maybe have more to give.
