Paul Johnson will be GT's head coach in 2019

How does this make you feel?

Lol we arent relevant now.
Just what is your standard of relevance?

There are 125 teams playing FBS football. Perhaps 5 of them have been in the playoff discussion every year, in the final weeks leading up to the playoff. (Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, who else?)

Only 15 P5 teams have won a Big 6 bowl since the CFP began four years ago. Here are some teams that haven't done it... Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Va Tech. Here's a team that has done it: Ga Tech.

I don't understand the point of being a fan of an underdog program like GT if you can't take some joy in the few things we have to brag about.

Have to wonder what this season could have been had we actually shown up and beat Pitt and South Florida. This should have been a 9 win team this year all things considered. The Duke game is what kills me though. How on earth can we not beat those guys?

USF lost the last three to Houston, Tulane, and Cincinnati. All by 2 or 3 touchdowns or more. They are a lower level American Conference team. So, ok, why can’t we beat a directional G5 also ran? Because our coach sucks.

Why can’t we beat Pitt? Their 4 losses were to 3 real teams (Penn State #20, the Natty Champs, UCF, #11, the next Natty Champs, ND, tatter eaters, and the Baby Blue Cheaters??? wha?)

Duke has PJ’s number, or at least Cut does. + We deserve to lose to Duke for not firing Sewak.

Lol we arent relevant now.
If we aren't relevant, who in the ACC is?

Clemson obviously, maaaaaybe Florida State purely due to name recognition, and that's it. We are in the next tier of teams - the ones who are almost always competitive, very rarely bad, and occasionally will jump up and beat the big boys when we catch lightning in a bottle.

Chan Gailey and Patrick Nix took the greatest receiver in the history of college football, the reigning WWE champion, Tashard Choice and Superbowl Champion Bebe Thomas and scored 6 God Damned points against Wake Forest. Six. Who gives a öööö what his recruiting was like? öööööööööööö needed to go.
I feel you're rage! I was in that stadium on a rainey, miserable day watching gailey just give that game away. When he had Tech to punt with about 3 minutes left in the game instead of going for it, I almost lost my mind!!

I really enjoy watching Paul Johnson's teams. I watch and realize what a great coach he is.
With a few exceptions, and I mean very few, TECH can play with about any team in the Country.
This year was a bit disappointing considering that if TECH had beaten South Florida, Pittsburgh and
Duke, all of which was possible and tangible we would be in the top ten. That being said, I feel that
Coach Johnson gives true TECH fans hope every year.
If only, Tech had beaten.... yada, yada, yada.

I'm coming to a steady realization that who we have under center matters less than who we have at RG.

Well, we aren't in the top ten, we are currently ranked #49. The highest ranked team that we have beaten is Miami, ranked #54. North Carolina and Louisville are 104 and 106, respectively. Don't know where Bowling Green and Alcorn might be listed. Yes, it has been disappointing that we haven't gone undefeated. :lol2:
Where are you getting those numbers? ESPN FPI has us #33, just outside the top 25. Only Clemson (#2), Miami (#29), and Boston College (#31) are above us in the ACC. We'll pass them both next week when we whip UVA. Syracuse may be 8-2, but they haven't beaten a single team in the top 40 all year. They play a garbage schedule and got hyped because they played well against the guy who was Clemson's 5th string QB heading into the Spring (who still went down and beat them when it mattered).

S&P+ (on footballoutsiders.com) currently has us at #52. Clemson's #2, Miami's #27, NC State's #28, Duke's #30, BC's #37, Syracuse's #47, UVA's #51. Pitt, BTW, is #58.

The reality is that every year in college football there are less than 5 teams that are obviously and universally acknowledged to be heads-and-shoulders above the rest. The great majority of our schedule are games that could go either way – and that's the case for VT and Auburn and Texas and a whole bunch of other quality football schools. From time to time a program or two – Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, at the moment – rise to prominence for several years, but then a coaching change, or penalties, or misfiring on a QB recruit or whatever, gives someone else a chance on Fortuna's Wheel.

What Saban's done in the era of CFB's greatest parity is amazing. Dude's a legend for sure.

Good question. The Coastal champ will be relevant for about a week.

If we can ruin the mutts season, we will be too. Else, we are in the "meh" group.

Our OB victory 5 years ago doesn't make us relevant today.

Bring ranked at-all would help, which we haven't been in almost 3 years. Beating a team in the top 50 would help, which we've not done this year.

I said elsewhere that the turnaround has been nice but we are still 3rd in a terrible Coastal so not sure how you can be so excited over it.

Hopefully we can kick the mutts in the nuts in 2 weeks. That'd make us relevant too!

Thanks for your response. Good luck to you in life –

Massey Composite Rankings---combines about 20 ranking or computer rating services.

I'm talking Vanderbilt irrelevant, Wake Forest irrelevant, Kentuc..... nevermind that one. No one expects those teams to win anything. They may pull of on upset over some inflated conference foe every other year, but that is about it. If no one talks about a team does it still exist?

At least Tech has some relevant history. Coastal champs, OB twice in a dozen years, and an offense that gains attention. Tech could be a nobody, kinda like in the 80s.

Remember the 80s when we pinned all our hopes on the basketball team? Those were the days!

Are you saying the 1929 Rose Bowl is no longer relevant? You are not a true Tech fan!:ughdance:

There are plenty of blue blood and simply passionate fan bases out there who would kill to have Tech's run the past 10 years. Snap out of it, man.
