They fared pretty disastrously OOC, but did go 7-1 in the AAC with that only loss being 52-40 to UCF. Their lone win outside the AAC was a 35-14 win vs. Maryland FWIW, and they finished 8-2 after a QB change.

It looks like (just from judging stat sheets) they went back and forth between a couple different QBs last year. They got beat pretty soundly against the ranked teams they played, but the losses to unranked teams were close. It was also his first year as a head coach, so maybe it took him a little time to adjust to the new role.
He beat South Florida this year with a team worse than ours in recruiting. If he beats Duke in the independence bowl, I say have TStan give him a contract during the award ceremony.

If we give him a contract I hope it's well before the Independence bowl.

Saban cancelled their game with us.
Supposedly, I learned on this board, he wanted to play one in Tuscalooser and one in the Georgia Dome with a 50/50 ticket split, denying us a true home game

His end game was to cancel the series. He didn’t care about the means by which it was done

The more I read about Collins the more I like him....unlike Whisenhunt. I want a guy who will recruit his ass off and come across as personable with the media and surrounding area. Someone who can really sell Georgia Tech. Then I want us to hire very strong coordinators who can flat out coach to our team's strengths, develop player, etc. The HC is then hands off with any one unit, really just overseeing at a global level. This is the Clemson model. Will it work for us, maybe not......but it's a solid model and the direction that I would like for us to take. If you luck into a Friedgen or the like as a coordinator then the sky is the limit until he gets poached. OH and by the way...you want people to want to hire your coordinators. That is a sign that they are doing a Fan-FREAKING-tastic job and likely a sign that you are winning.

That is a good article. Thanks for the link. Key takeaways: Innovation & Recruiting. Slightly more concerning... wish I knew why there's been a drop off from Rhule to Collins in Temple's results.
One reason is that UCF has gotten much better. Looking at Temple's 17 and 18 seasons, there are a lot of close losses in there. In 2017, he got blown out by UCF, USF, and Notre Dame but the other 3 losses were by a total of 14 pts. 2018 losses by an average of under 7 pts.

Collins older brother ran track at GT in the late 80's.

1987 Indoor
The pole vault: a favorite event for spectators. It exists in both the indoor and outdoor seasons
The 1987 indoor season was notably different from previous seasons. That year, the ACC indoor championship was revived from a six-year period of rest. The tournament was held February 20-21, at the “neutral” site of East Tennessee State in Johnson City, TN. Both the Yellow Jackets men’s and women’s track and field teams qualified for the tournament. That was the first time that the Lady Jackets had participated in the ACC Indoor meet.<ref>Georgia Tech Sports Information (February 23, 1987)</ref> That year, Georgia Tech’s biggest opponent was Maryland’s men’s team, who won the ACC indoor title 26 out of the 27 times that it existed, including the previous league championship held in 1980.<ref>Georgia Tech Sports Information; Track Teams Compete in ACC Indoor Championshops(February 16, 1987)</ref> But the men’s team was ready for the competition. The Yellow Jackets had all seven of its all-ACC performers returning from the previous year’s outdoor championships where the Ramblin' Wreck <ref>Ramblin' Wreck. (6 October 2010) In Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.Retrieved October 22, 2010 from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramblin'_Wreck</ref> placed third. Tech already established seven new indoor school records that year and finished third at the Florida/Gainesville Sun Invitational. Credit for the third-place victory goes to the pair of returning All-Americas: mile-runner Alan Drosky and hurdler James Purvis.

Five of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets track and field athletes went on to perform at the NCAA Indoor competition that year. These were Kathy Harrison, Alan Drosky, James Purvis, Dirk Morris, and Mark Pickens.<ref>Georgia Tech Sports Information; Tech Sends Five Tracksters to NCAA Championships. Most notably of these five was Harrison, who by qualifying for the NCAA tournament, became the first female in Georgia Tech history to qualify for the NCAA championships in any sport. 1987 Outdoor
After hosting the second annual Georgia C. Griffin Invitational at the Griffin Track, Tech showed how competitive it's track team had become. The 1987 outdoor season saw six track athletes qualify for the NCAA tournament. This was an impressive feat, since it marked the largest group of athletes to have qualified for the tournament in Georgia Tech track team history.<ref>Georgia Tech Sports Information; Tech Sends Five Tracksters to NCAA Championships (March, 9 1987</ref> The group included the five from the previous season’s team along with a sophomore runner named Danny Collins from Conyers, GA. Although, not one of the six athletes became an NCAA champion that year in their events, Georgia Tech still showed great ambition in its goal to develop skilled athletes.

In reasons to hire him, this ranks below cheesesteak videos but above...

Well I'm sure it ranks above something.

This is what concerns me as well.
Roster turnover from Rhule's last season to Collins' first. Lost a good QB and RB, took a while to figure out the replacement. Also had to adjust to being a head coach. Seems to have transitioned well now.

I just remember Danny not being a UGAy lover in high school. I want a hire that hates UGAy as much as me. But, unfortunately your right Cheesesteak videos are a better reason!

If they put Cheesesteaks in our stadium because of his hiring, it will all have been worth it. We don't already have those in the LW do we?

Auburn fans have PTSD from the greatest coach of the past 40 years taking up residence in the archrival and steamrolling the world. They are not good judges of Gus, IMHO.
We need to thank St. Mark every day that he was holding tight to the HC position in athens when Saban was looking for a job.

I get the vapors thinking about it. Though come to think of it, maybe we shoulda fired CCG a little earlier and made a play ourselves. There's an NFL coach it would've been smart to go after.
