Patenaude to be OC

Exactly. I think it's crucial. How many teams in the last 10 years have been consistent winners without either a great offense or an overwhelming talent advantage?

Michigan State
TCU
VT
Stanford (but peaked with Luck who gave them a great O also)

BYU under Bronco

I have to agree with this guy.

I think that is a little bit of wishful thinking. Duke made adjustments at the half, came out of the half inspired and once Duke got a commanding lead then Temple folded. I do think that if Collins had been there as coach they might have come out of the half inspired and made game of it; but Duke's talent level would have been too much to completely overcome. I still don't want to read too much from the game other than if you wanted a warm fuzzy you didn't get it.

I thought of a few of those as well, but I think it's interesting that all 4 have fallen off to some degree.

There's only one program in the country that's been consistently Top 5 year in, year out over the past decade. We can't judge all teams and all programs by the black unicorn that is Nick Saban.

Are there reports confirming him as OC? I see he was also the QB coach at temple. Maybe CGC retains him as a positional coach and hands Key the OC job? Or Tee Martin? Though it sounds like Tee will end up at Louisville.

VT fell off when they implemented Feunte’s hurry up. I’m not sure they have adjusted their D to mesh with that O philosophy yet.

To truly build a defense first team, you have to sacrifice some offense. Punt between the 40’s and play field position. Chan was good at that. He just didn’t have a very good O.

I hope CGC can build a Beamerstyle team that has solid ST and defensive units. The O can be a bit boring until you can get a playmaker QB.

One difference, VT never consistently faced multiple top ten teams every year. A 9 win baseline here will be much harder to reach.

I hope CGC is willing to fire coaches who underperform even after 1 year. CPJ was too slow to pull that trigger.

Underperform as a recruiter or as a coach? Sometimes top coaches aren't top recruiters and vice versa. That may end up being a problem if the focus is too heavily slanted towards recruiting.

At ND and Penn St, they had failures at coaching.

Tenuta, reportedly, wasn’t a great recruiter but was a good coach. Really, I think the coordinators needed to be top schemers and the position coaches great recruiters.

Whose players did he win the OB with in 2014? The year we would likely have beaten FSU in the ACCCG and made the playoffs had georgia not played dirty and deliberately injured Smelter.

A team makes the CFP with losses to puke, uncheat and barely beats ga so.?

You know illegal (even some legal) drugs are bad for you, right?

We were a play away from being ACC champs. We won our next game and ended up with a top-ten ranking. A top-ten ranking despite losses to Duke and UNC, and a slight victory over GA Southern (weird, I seem to remember some other slight victories over lesser teams that teams playing right now had).

Smelter plays in the ACCCG and he makes the block on the sideline and we score a TD near the end of the game. But georgia stood him up and had a dirty late hit right on his knee, so we lost. Do I think we were a lock to make it? Hell no, but it could have happened. Regardless, we blew the pants off a very good Miss State team. Go bigcry some more.

1- I was completely joking.
2- we were not making the playoffs if we beat FSU. We’ve talked about this. It would have required a number of things out of control happening, none of which happened.

We would definitely have been first team out. So, ya, we would have been in the hunt for CFPz
