Why in the wide world of sports was he even hired? 1 mediocre season at Oregon and some ok stints at USF? Because he was a QB at Western Kentucky? I don't get it.

Especially given the scandal with the Oregon workouts. Smells more to me that they hired him to clear away some bad apples and fall on his sword so they can start over.

But hey Willie's got a plan. Maybe they're hiring Paul Johnson as a consultant to make the Briles offense an option based spread. Honestly, it could work if they roll out a bunch of athletes.

I've rarely seen a guy so clearly in over his head.
That is a fact. His two best qualities are being “cool” to his players and reciting slogans. What a bunch of idiots to not vet a guy like that and give him a 6 year, 30 million dollar contract

Frank answer? He's black. It's was an affirmative action hire.

FSU is going to Miami for a while now.

I've kind of thought this as well. However, if that is the route that the FSU admin wanted to go, isn't there a pretty long list of minority coaches better qualified than this guy? He had one good season out of 4 @ South Florida, was pretty mediocre at Oregon and then to FSU.

Maybe he is close friends with someone at FSU? Otherwise, FSU made a blind dice roll (when they certainly didn't have to) and it's not looking good.

The President and the Boosters let the AD at the time dictate the hire. They fell for Taggart’s act hook, line and sinker. I know a number of people pretty close to the situation, and what they had to say is pretty much the same: Fisher had gotten so detached, his whole program (especially the academics and overall culture) were a dumpster fire. The AD wanted a minority coach, and one who he thought connected to the players, and at the same time rid them of some of the thuggery.
Taggart is great at slogans, and being seen as “cool” to his players. The truth is, he has no tangible plan as to building a program, development of players, recruiting, and most of all is a complete failure of a game coach.
They were so much in a rush to hire this guy and pat themselves on the back, they did very little vetting. They are stuck with him for a while, and the Booster dollars are drying up.

The AD that hired “Radio” is gone. They have an interim AD right now
Is the belief that Taggart chose not to sign a QB and that was his plan from the beginning, or that he wanted to sign a QB and couldn't get his man so decided to use the scholarship elsewhere rather than take someone of lower quality?

Great plan. Treat the QB position like it is a kicker. Get some 2 star walk on QB's from some crappy high school and don't waste a scholarship.

FSU has always rose and fell depending on the QB. They had talent everywhere, but QB made them elite.
