What Lewis Caralla Does, Lewis Caralla Gets Done

I think you either "get" Disney or you have the thousand yard stare after 2 hours. .. I have the thousand yard stare after 2 hours.
Disney is my personal definition of He*l. Survived one trip, came home with unused days left on my pass. Never been back, never will. Epcot was more civilized, but if I want to see "France", I go to the real thing...:(

Trust me .. I feel your pain. I have daughters 12 & 6. We've been 4 times in 12 years. 4 nights max each time. Girls and my wife love it. Just love it. Me .. I can't get over the fact for the money spent on a 4 day disney trip we could go to Hilton Head for about 2 weeks.

This year's vaca though? Yellowstone

Yellowstone with a 6 y/o? Tell us how it goes.

Also, the 4 day pass is really expensive. The price drops fast after that. I'm assuming you stayed on property, which doubles that down.

Disney is OK when it isnt crowded in the fall. I wouldnt go near it in the spring or summer.

We went in February 3 times and January once. We did "economy" twice and in the park twice.

Awesome. Lines are great in fall break (end of Sept) but even better in jan/feb. February can be a little cold for the water rides, (e.g. splash mountain) eh? We are hitting the Disney water parks this weekend and early next week (i got a season pass last fall so its just the cost of the drive and the hotel).

BTW, did you ride Avatar flight of passage?

We have not... probably be 3 or more years before we're back but we will try it. I'm also glad to know Star Wars deal will be open. We were just there this January.

You pull them out of school? Havent done that myself. We went for 9 days a year and a half ago. Won't go back until Star Wars is in and settled down a bit. Gonna do Universal next fall instead. Im a bit worried I cant handle Universal's coasters though.

nah .. was the very first week of January, 2-5. School was not back yet. Daughter had a dance workshop there with her studio. Group rate, etc.

Disney always astonishes me. There are a few people that I work closely with in the hospital that go to Disney at least once a year. These people are nurses and OR techs who presumably do fairly well financially (above average anyway). I consider myself to be reasonably successful as well (I almost 80k), and I can't fathom spending that kind of money on a trip to Florida. It just blows my mind. I really don't see how some of them afford it.

I have done Orlando with the kids at least once every year for at least 6 years. If you know what you are doing it isnt that expensive. If you want to stay in a Disney hotel then, well, that is different.

The base Disney ticket is like $500 for a 10 day pass. I took the family(4) for 9 days and kept it around $3k but i know what I am doing.

Everything else is cheaper. Season passes at Legoland or Disney waterparks are well under $200. You can get two fall breaks out of a season pass and a spring as well. You can do the same with a Universal Season pass.

you spent $2000 on park passes and only $1000 for everything else for 9 days?

Best time to go to Mexico is after Thanksgiving and before Christmas.

Not much over that. In the offseason i got a condo for a week for well under $100 a night. ~$550 iirc. Parking at $25 a pop is not irrelevant. McDonalds breakfast to go on the way in and second tier restaurants in the park with kids meals can be kept around $60 a day. Bring your own snacks and waters/gatorades (freeze them and they are cold all day).
