This is absolutely false. There have been numerous recruits and high school coaches this year on record saying they would not have considered Tech in the past SOLELY because of the offense we ran. This was even for defensive players because they did not want to take 80% of their practice snaps against that type of offense.
Yeah, I didn't want to believe it for the longest time, but the evidence is in on this point.

Nebraska also had an NFL Caliber TE for most of those 3 MNCs and they had great defenses and great OLs

They were never undersized like the kinds of Recruits that CPJ signed

Nebraska wasn't beating out G5 schools for Recruits like we were
Nebraska was also juiced to the gills. And we aren’t talking Coach Collins juice.

In the middle of the offseason doldrums, I got sucked into watching Alex Carrick's YouTube channel nearly every night, which is nothing but all the O plays of Tech going back years and years. It's amazing how much different the O changed after JT left - like night and day different. That '14 O had the ball bouncing inside and outside. Those post JT years were ugly - far uglier - than I remember in terms of complexity and variation of the option.

It's too bad Searcy and Lynch couldn't stick around longer. I would love to see them as slot guys in a traditional spread. CPJ's play calling/TQ's play really did piss away their later Tech careers.
I think CPJ's playcalling suffered because Taquon was our best option at quarterback. The issue was that we lost so many guys in the QB pipeline ahead of Taquon playing.

That's CPJ fault for not recruiting better QBs than Taquon

Oh, I'm not disagreeing with that. Our offensive scheme was absolutely stigmatized and constantly used against us in negative recruiting. The point I was trying to make was that a recruiting-minded coach can make that type of thing "cool". There are plenty of offensive schemes run by NCAA teams that are vastly different from NFL schemes, yet they are able to recruit talented players because they sell it the right way and with a lot of energy.

No, I really don't think it is. We have a sample size of one. Only one guy has attempted to run that offense in P5 football since the turn of the century, and I think we all know he is not the gold standard of recruiting. Just because CPJ couldn't recruit elite athletes to play in the option doesn't mean nobody can.

We all know that CPJ wasn't a great recruiter and didn't focus a lot on recruiting, but everybody in the business knew how well he coached that offense, and I see it the exact opposite way. If CPJ couldn't recruit elite athletes to play in the option then who can?

I think CPJ probably could have recruited better athletes had he been given the resources to do so. Hell, recruiting did uptick once TStan took over and gave him at least a little more than Bumbinski. Does that mean every 5 star kid is going to be interested in the 3O, no, but its not unreasonable to think a 3O team with the proper resources and coaches/salesmen could recruit in the top 35 and perform at the level of a top 25 team consistently with that talent.

I was told by multiple 4*s over the course of the time that I left that this was true.
What's funny are the dwindling Scheme Firsters who will hear a player say that and STILL deny that reality. I emphasize "dwindling" as most GT fans are on-board the CGC train now, for better or worse.

I tend to agree. Some fans have pointed out that "things would've been different had LJ not gotten injured" but so far thru 3 games, he doesn't appear to be much better at throwing than TQM and is definitely not as fast a runner.

I disagree. All PJ needed to do was bill mileage to recruit across metro ATL and yet metro-area HS coach after metro-area HS coach has said that GT ignored them for a decade prior to CGC's arrival.

I’m not a 3O defendant and I don’t think 3O is the only way for us to go but I think our OC is hot garbage. Some of his mistakes have nothing to do with the “most monumental transition in the history of college football”, it’s just dumb football. We need a decent OC if we want success with these awesome recruits we’re getting.
If CGC is trying to emulate Dabo on some scale, he may come to the same conclusions about ineffective coordinators. Dabo made several coordinator changes before hitting on the combination he has now. We don't have the huge money to spend and may not be able to keep good coordinators, but we will never know until we try.

I'll agree with this also. Nesbitt was just a gamer and a winner and willed us to victory several times. Washington was extremely consistent and had a decent arm but seemed to lack the explosiveness and home-run threat. Vad Lee experiment didn't really work. JT5 was the only "electric" QB we had in CPJ's tenure IMO. TQM had his flashes but some games he was either just flat on or off. When I watch Navy run the triple, their QB's all seem to be as electric and as explosive as JT5 was for us. I said it many times, if CPJ ever got the right QB, we would be dangerous, and IMO I don't think he ever found that outside of JT5.

I think some of y'all have forgotten what it's like to be a teenager. Scheme is important, but there are a million other things that matter more. Read what recruits say matters to them - it ain't the offensive scheme.

Our scheme was perceived as old-fashioned, but part of that is because our coach WAS old-fashioned.

A recruit picked Auburn because of Chick-fil-A. Kids are extremely impressionable and often pick a school based on feel. CPJ was a hell of an X's and O's coach, but he's not the type of guy to make GT feel cool or innovative. IMO it's that simple. If Clemson ran the triple option they would be recruiting just as well as they are now with Dabo as coach and an energetic staff.
