I did not hear Wes this morning but spoke with 2 friends who did.

Basically, Wes Durham is not happy with ACC officiating.

He said something to the extent of "the ACC will be a 2nd rate conference if this is allowed to continue". (note: not EXACT quotes as I did not listen)

And he's right.

We had just scored a touchdown. Got a penalty and STILL converted the two point conversion.

Then...our defense gets a GREAT stop on Tyrod Taylor and the Hokies. Momentum was on our side BIG TIME. "BIG TIME MO MO" as I like to call it.

But wait! The refs completely interfere with the game and as CPJ stated, that drive was "one for the books".

An absolutely HORRIFIC call at the WORST possible time. I know it doesn't help matters whatsoever but I am very surprised that not many more of us are beeching about it as much as I am.

I thought this was interesting because usually Wes Durham will kind of steer away from blaming officials but it was so bad that he did. Good for him!

Did anyone else hear what Wes Durham had to say?

I hope that now that we've essentially lost two huge games by doing the exact same thing, we won't do it again, regardless of whether the call was wrong or not.

Trust me. I got all my bitching out after the game. We're not going to get anything changed crying about it. Swofford needs to do something and he's proven time and again that he is a massive pussy.

Maybe it's time to go to full time refs, instead of part time. This was discussed this morning on one of the talk shows, but I didn't hear the whole thing.

Tackling a runner with the ball ? I hope we continue to tackle. I mean GMAFB. How the F do you teach somebody to *kind of tackle* that wasn't even close to a helmet-to-helmet with intent.

It's going to take some time but CPJ is not going to put up with this officiating. The office is going to get tired of him calling out the officials and THEY will have to do something about it because it's on the film and films don't lie. Give CPJ some time and you will start to see calls going our way.

DODD, we had this argument in the NFL but it ain't gonna happen. It should though, there is too much money on the line for these idiots to not do their job correctly.

I would demand to have them suspended and not get paid and lose any chance to ref in bowl games.

Can anyone provide some more info on ADD...I mean ACC ref's salaries/hours etc....????

Also, has it always been this bad? I didn't REALLY start paying attention to games until 1998...and I know it was bad then, too.

the helmet to helmet call was lousy, but MJ's facemask penalty was a good call. We had Tyrod for a huge loss, but it got ruined. Can't blame the refs there.

the facemask was incidental. last year that would have been a 5 yard penalty.

There has never been and will never will be good officials or refs in any sport any time any where as far as the fans are concerned. Even yesterday in the NFL, which has the best officials in any sport anywhere, people everywhere were ridiculing Ed Hocchuli, one of the best in his profession, for a bonehead call yesterday that gave Denver a second chance to win.

As long as people ref games people are going to make judgment errors and even flat out incorrect decisions. That's called life. Its best to just get over it, accept it and learn to live with it.

People will say Ed Hocculi cost SD the game. Wrong. He cost SD a chance to essentially end the game. SD still could have stopped the TD or 2 point conversion. They failed and that is why they lost.

I guess a lot of people still don't know what "incidental" means in the context of a facemask penalty. It doesn't have anything to do with intent or being accidental. All it means is that the hand brushed the facemask during the play. MJ clearly did not brush Taylor's facemask...he grabbed it.

The TV announcers said (and I had already noticed) during the game that CPJ was "working the refs like a basketball coach".

And did you guys see the way Mike Smith of the Falcons was on the refs yesterday in the Tampa game? The Falcons fumbled the ball, Tampa picked it up, then tried a lateral but it was going forward, then a Tampa guy roughed-up Matt Ryan... the refs called the forward lateral on the Falcons and the roughing the passer on Tampa, thus off-setting. Mike Smith was POed and he would not let the refs spot the ball and start the clock again. He just kept yelling and getting them over to the sidelines... it worked too because they finally got the call right and we got the ball back.

CPJ will be doing this stuff as well. He is not going to sit idly by and say oh well. He's going to get on the refs to make the right call... and if they don't, he'll keep sending in letters and tapes to the ACC.

I've always thought that refs should be held accountable publicly like coaches and players are. They can have a significant impact on the game, but for whatever reason they are not usually held accountable publicly. Good for CPJ for making his displeasure known. The ACC has some awful officials, and not just in football. They're basketball refs are flat out terrible.

At least the officials in the NFL (Chargers-Broncos) game yesterday...

ADMITTED THEY WERE WRONG!!!!!! AND THAT THE BLEW THE DAMN CALL!!!!!

But....there was nothing about it they could do because the whistle blew (and they obviously can't go against the rules on a gut-feeling)...even when they know its clearly unfair.

I have never in my life heard a college ref admit their incompetence.

I thought it meant the facemask was grabbed, but the neck wasn't twisted.
