Dave Wannstedt must smoke crack

Ask the crew that has a conniption fit every time anyone says the slightest criticism of CPJ.

Who, by the way, is 100% responsible for our current mess.
I could easily flip the conversation and advocate a moratorium on criticizing CPJ who won three games in Athens, an ACC title and one Orange Bowl, etc. that CCG couldn't do any of in 8 years. CPJ might not have been as classy as CCG but that's not really on my list as an important criteria.

And so effing what if some folks get their panties bunched up at CPJ criticism. So your defense of CCG is a reaction to that? Yikes - I'm not sure which is worse - the sandy vag reaction to criticizing former coaches or the sandy vag reaction to the counter-reaction to criticizing former coaches.

Criticize and defend as you see fit and tell anybody who can't handle it to move to the Hive.

I’ll criticize and praise without bias.

Gailey praise:
Class act throughout and still
No losing seasons
Recruited some absolute studs and diamonds in the rough
Left a better roster than when he arrived

Gailey criticisms:
Never beat uga
Tony Hollings debacle
Nix
The 7win ceiling
ACCCG debacle
51-7
The 4th down OOB
Academic issues/aloof CEO approach

Johnson praise:
Orange Bowl x2
Beating uga multiple times
ACCCG appearances and win
A devastating offense when it was on
Developed several 2* players to very good college athletes

Johnson criticism:
Recruiting sucked and got worse over time
Defenses sucked and DC coordinator hires largely sucked
Offense was a clown show when it was off which was becoming more frequent
Left team worse than he found it

CPJ was 30 minutes away from the dwags tying Dodd's 8-year win streak in COFH with the team you just described and won the game. In Athens. Anybody want to advance the idea that CCG would have won that game? Hint - we would have lost by 40.

Gailey lost to three UGA teams better than that one by 14, 7, and 6.

CPJ caught them flat footed in 08 and then lost to two straight unranked uga teams.

CPJ got to face the worst UGA teams since Ray Goff and lost to most of them.

You forgot CCG coaching the patsy that allowed Duke to break the longest ACC losing streak of all time.

I had intentionally quarantined that memory. I was there. I’ve been working hard to quarantine 51-7 but have had trouble doing so. Was also there for that.

My curse is that I can't quarantine anything. Its all front and center.

Yeah? So did Bobby Dodd. You play to your team strengths and he routinely put the best dual athletes on defense. And you overstate your case.
Its a freakin interweb board, you're supposed to overstate your case!

Chan is very well respected throughout professional football coaching circles; it’s baffling to me that some of our fans make him out to be some sort of idiot while immortalizing Paul Johnson as a godlike football mind. Both had pros and cons, and Their win overall percentages were essentially the same.

An Orange bowl victory and UGAg wins will do wonders for you at Tech. Aren't you a troll account?

I was no fan of Chan, but no other coach at Tech faced as good of uga teams as Chan. He faced 6 top 10 uga teams and the other was 23.

CPJ played four unranked uga teams.

CPJ also beat a top 10 ranked uga team.

I can live with the highs and lows better than being lukewarm.

Here’s to hoping CGC can keep the highs and drop the lows.

i agree with most of this but Gailey inherited the best roster of any coach that i can remember and he certainly didn't leave a better one.

CPJ beat one of the most talented teams in UGA history. A preseason nbr 1 team who's only other losses were to undefeated Alabama and Florida.

that was their fourth best team of that decade and CCG faced the top 3. Incidentally 2009 was probably the worst of that decade and 2010 was their worst of the next one and CPJ lost to both of those.

Correct. The David Greene years they were on a roll. He ended up the all time winningest QB in CFB history. If CCG doesn't get Calvin, they probably breeze to a few Natty's.

I will give you 2002 but to say that there were 2 other teams definitively better than 2008 is a real stretch.. Which 2 other teams were more talented than 2008 which had the nbr 1 overall pick in the NFL draft plus AJ Green,. 4 or 5 nfl pro bowlers starting on defense, that team was loaded by any standard. And by the way we beat that team, how did we do against the 3 others you mentioned?

Are you talking Fat Stafford? He was drafted due to arm strength. David Greene was a better QB at UGAg

2003 lost to the national champions and top 25 Florida. annihilated top 25 Clemson and Tennessee.

2004 lost to undefeated auburn and #15 Georgia by 5.

2005 lost to three top 15 teams. Beat top 5 LSU and won SEC.

2008 uga did not beat a single team in the regular season that finished top 25. So overrated.

also Mark Richt 2008 and beyond was a shell of Mark Richt 2002-07.

Do you not know what the word talent means? I said uga 2008 was one of the most talented teams in uga history and Stafford is certainly part of that, Arm talent including strength is part of of it, but he's also big and athletic. Stafford was the overall nbr 1 pick and obviously the top qb taken, AJ Green was the top WR taken in the draft and Moreno was the top RB taken in the draft. Off the top of my head Geno Aktins, Justin Houston, Reshad Jones, Stafford and Green all went to pro bowls.

Is anybody seriously arguing that the 2008 UGA team did not have tons of talent, even by their standards? It's easily the best UGA team that we've even beaten, at least in my lifetime. If it's not, give me a better one.

My view has essentially been covered here by several posters, but I think the biggest thing hampering CGC in his time here is being a square peg (Pro coach) in a round hole (College coaching position). Flunkgate hurt him and really wasn't due to him. As has been mentioned, he was conservative on offense and did rely on an attacking defense which, in big games, benefited greatly from inexperience from the opposing QBs. But, mainly, I think it took him too long to get adjusted to college ball vs. pro (and maybe he never really did). There were stories about O'Leary and assistants following kids to class to ensure they were there. Gailey gave up a lot of oversight to the Hill and blindly trusted it. He finally got the recruiting thing going by bringing in people like Collins (2007), but it was too late.
