Hey stop arguing with facts. Some people like being 9-20 and running a “big time” program a lot better than winning. Besides it’s easier to like losing when the team’s doing it in a way that makes you feel all manly about how we’re doing it. Read the damn talking points and bee a good fan!

I think going for two early is intended to try and win the game, not tie the game and go into OT and that is the difference. Assuming success rates of 50% on going for two, you have a 50% chance of winning the game with a TD and XP or if you miss, you still have a 50% chance of tieing the game anyway. The odds stack up in your favor for going for it early.

Exactly.

Assuming XP is 100% (lol) and 2PC is 50%, if you go for the XP on the first touchdown and the 2PC on the second, the outcomes are 50% win, 50% loss.

If you go for the 2PC on the first TD, then the outcomes are 50% win, 25% tie, 25% loss.

In the situation we were in (needed to get onside and score another TD), going for it first is objectively better assuming you've already decided you want to play for the win.

You joined 8 1/2 years ago. Why are you just getting around to whining now? After that long one would figure that you know the lay of the land and realize it ain't gonna change cuz your fee-fees are offended.
I joined 8 1/2 years ago, but I didn't like it here, so I went elsewhere. I only this past summer started using it again, so I am seeing now why I didn't like it before. HOWEVER, because most of the posters here are mature enough to carry on informed discussions about Tech football, overall, I like it. What you and a few others don't seem to realize or care about is that this is a sports forum, not a little boys' locker room, and you ruin it for those actually wanting to discuss Tech football, and other sports. Someone tried unsuccessfully to compare it to going to Bourbon Street and being aghast as the debauchery there. One goes to Bourbon Street and similar places BECAUSE of the debauchery (or whatever). Most people go to sports forums to discuss sports, not to engage in child-like behavior totally unrelated to sports. The more you guys say to bash what I and many others have said, the more you prove us to be right. As I have already said several times, GROW THE HELL UP !!!

I'd say the person ruining it now is you. I understand what you are saying but just ignore the posts yo udon't like. At this point you are the one derailing the thread and shifting the discussion away from football.

sometimes I can tell if these guys are talking about FB or a failing Division of a Corporation (lost our leverage)
maybe we agree...... "we lost leverage on their receivers"
did someone borrow money and was unable to pay it back? Did this somehow distract our DB's ?
we need a word usage chart to measure how fast "hat's off" is rising!
Definitely TStan needs to force Collins to watch a real presser like from Saban,Swinney or Gundy so he can start learning some football words like block, tackle and offsides instead of staying stuck in an infomercial with terms like elite,high-level and pre-snap time period.

1-1.5 ypa seems significant to me, but I don't know how significant it is

Sorry, but when I am offended by something, I am not going to sit quietly by and put up with it. And I DO find those childish attempts at humor offensive. My actual comments have been few and far between for the most part. It is only when the morons engaging in such offensive behavior argue with me that I jump back into it. The fact that I have not seen a single intelligent sports-related post by any of these little boys engaging in this moronic behavior tells me that THEY are the ones derailing the thread. Leave those out to begin with, and I, like most of us here will just discuss sports. I have not always agreed with posts that others have made about Tech sports, nor, I am sure, have they agreed with me, but at least we are discussing sports and not bathroom humor.

Would you like us to create a safe space on the forum for you? Grow a pair and just ignore the posts too don’t like. You’re offended? Boo boo, Nancy.

I go to bourbon street to see your mom working the corner like the lady of the night she is.

We missed an extra point and our punting sucked. Not to mention we went for two when it made no sense at all.
The analytics suggest otherwise regarding going for 2 at that point. Probability of a win goes up when down by 14 to go for 2 on the first score in the final minutes of the game.

There is a relatively common game situation in which the two-point conversion can be an optimal strategy even if its likelihood is under 50%. A team down fourteen points in the final minutes must score two touchdowns while keeping their opponents scoreless in order to tie or win the game. In this situation, it is possible (but unlikely for a team) to go for two after the first score, because if the team makes it, they can kick an extra point in their next score to secure a win, while if they miss, they still have a chance to make the next two-point conversion to get to fourteen. Though the logic seems counter-intuitive, this maximizes a team's win probability. The odds of converting a two-point try either on the first attempt (securing a win) or the second (securing a tie and sending the game into overtime) are higher than the odds of missing both (securing a loss), as long as the expected probability is higher than about 39 percent.

Credit to CuseJacket OTOB for finding this.

Play call was good as well, blocked perfect, Sims wasn't wide open, but he was plenty open to make the catch, just failed to execute the throw.

Who gives a öööö about the press conference? It impacts nothing.

This vehemence isn't entirely directed at you, but this is somehow a huge sticking point for a lot of people around here.

interestingly, that article states something like “as long as the conversion probability is over 39%”. I looked up stats this morning in college 2 pt success rate, and it was something like 40.5%. (Maybe a little lower for us given our red zone struggles?) So statistically, the call was borderline.

no it doesn't impact anything but it is offensive and embarrassing to hear. We can do better.
I'm not trying to throw rocks at you but its also true that lots defend him...and the antics
I will not try to defend him at any happy hour if football is being discussed. just SMH and say we hope he improves.
It's not just the pressers. Money Down, choreographed dancers, weight lifters,ATL and 404 are among the cheezy and embarrassing things our program would be better off without. I view eliminating some or most of them as a prerequisite for Collins to have long term success. Granted the W-L record will be his deciding factor and we can disagree about how long it should take but the antics and coaching sure don't seem to be improving.

And if we have long term success while not eliminating them? Will they then be acceptable to you or will you still hate them?
Say, for example, we have a year like 2014 and make it to the ACC title game and lose (but still had a successful season and beat Georgia) and Collins says the same exact kind of things in the postgame presser. Would you still say it's offensive and embarrassing?

I guess what I'm getting at is when you say "I view eliminating some or most of them as a prerequisite for Collins to have long term success", I question if what you mean deep down is more like:
"I view eliminating some or most of them as a prerequisite for Collins to have long term acceptance."

I kinda like the ATL thing and I imagine that the 404 thing resonates with the kids we’re recruiting based on my sense that ATL/404 has some cachet in hip hop culture. You’ve got to be pretty pedantic and butthurt (which to be fair is the default state for some of our fans) to be upset about the ATL/404 stuff.

Money Down is really only an issue because we continue to do it when we’ve demonstrated almost no ability to back it up on the field.

I’m sick of the buzz words and the coach speak and the seemingly blind and glib positivity, so I’ve quit listening to pressers and the coach’s show. (I will admit that I was wrong to make fun of his pre-game statement about the “big time atmosphere” at UVA - the atmosphere was pretty legit by current standards.)

Some of the other gimmicks I may not love, but they aren’t for me. When I read this Joc Pederson article, it made me think about the little, intangible things that may be stupid but that may give the team some cohesion, confidence, or swagger that make the difference in a win and a loss. Hopefully Collins and staff have a good barometer for what’s actually working and what was a bad idea or a good idea that’s run its course.

Why am I not surprised at such an immature response?

Let me redirect everyone’s anger. So how much hell will I catch as a UGA fan if GT were to beat UGA? Does the pregame bashing start the week of the game or sooner? I mean I realize it’s bash UGA anytime here just wondering how hot it’s going to get in the kitchen?

Like you said, it's really "bash UGA anytime", but because of the mutts' apparent legitimacy so far this year and Tech's failure to do much of anything the past 3 years, the bashing really won't get all that bad until/unless Tech wins. If that happens, you won't know what hit you. LOL
