A Crucial Three Weeks

Not about leverage, just comparison and truth. Why would any of our opponents want GC gone?
There’s a lot of reasons like drags down the strength of schedule, you gotta get your Punter ready to play QB, might have to re-write the record books after the game, and on top of that you don’t always get the normal obligatory handshake at the end of the game, etc.

First, I'm pretty sure this kind of bullshit statement has been said on this forum in every year of Tech football since 2014 ended.

Second, an actual answer: because he can recruit. Other coaches would much rather have us suck AND not be competing with them for recruits. I wonder if FSU wishes they had Sims right now.

Press,
I like your posts even when I disagree. But if you really believe Jeff Sims is a better QB than Thomas then you live in a fantasy world. And I wasn’t even that big a fan of Thomas. But he understood the game and saw the whole field. He would have been way more efficient than Sims has shown in this offensive system. Thomas in shotgun with these weapons and his speed would have been fun to watch. I admit that Sims has a higher upside but he hasn’t shown he’ll reach his potential. He’s in his 2nd full season and we still don’t know what he’ll give us on Saturday.

I loved Thomas running the option but his passing was suspect. Suggesting that Senior Thomas is better than Sophomore Sims in the current offense is a stretch.

What stats did JT5 have his second year?

I don't think any of our opponents are too worried about whether he goes or stays at this point. Hopefully, that will change when we become relevant again.

You are probably right. I am more concerned about whether he goes or stays than they are.

Have never doubted the upgrade in recruiting but he is not a good football coach (at this point).

This seems like an overstatement. We have a pretty good idea what we'll get from him. He'll complete ~60% (give or take). He'll make the defense pay a few times with his legs. He'll make a few really nice throws and on most plays look like an above average QB. There will also be at least a couple plays that make you scratch your head and wonder what he saw, which is pretty much par for an above average, but not [yet?] elite, QB.

Even the very best QBs at the NFL level make some bad throws and bad reads. Simms, while above average, is not yet an elite NFL QB halfway through his second year of college so we expect it to happen more often.

So, no, I can't predict with any confidence that he'll complete exactly 65% for 312 yards, 2 TD, and 0 ints this week, but we have enough of a body of work to get a decent idea of what to expect. He'll have some really nice throws and 2ish TDs marred by one or to picks that make your want to tear your hair out. It'll likely be a pretty reasonable stat-line for a sophomore QB, that will have to show improvement over the next couple of years if he wants to play at the next level.

My God Joe Hamilton wouldn't had a chance with you.

I have a feeling we’re gonna beat uga too and it’s gonna be hilarious. Nothing to lose 4-7 Jackets vs eyes on Benz 11-0 dwags. They’re gonna come here stoned and drunk expecting to score 90 and go home with some weird 8-10 loss to Tech.

or they’re gonna score 90. One of the two is happening.
öööö yeah. To HELL with Georgia. Sims 350 passing. Gibbs 200 rushing. We rain TDs down on them. Their flustered offense becomes a turnover machine.

What are you talking about? Did you quote the wrong post? I'm saying that Sims is playing pretty well overall, except for a few mistakes every game. He has room to improve, but he's above average overall for a Sophomore quarterback.

Fair question. You would have to look through a few of my other posts. Also, I have a lot of friends who attended GT and are all good people. I’m not a guy who hates GT other than on gamedays vs. UGA.
There is your problem. And it’s our fault really.

Sims has played 4 "full" games thus far.

In 3 of the full Games he's been right at 300yds passing or over and has completed 62% in those Games.

In the 4th game he played roughly a half vs UNC and ran for 128 yds and threw for 112 yds on 77% passing.

Honestly speaking, last Year the way our OLine and WRs looked (not getting separation and mailing it in in the NC State Gm):

Did anyone think Sims would have three 300yd passing Games in the first half of the Season?

Do you CPJ Fanbois not see how huge of a leap forward Sims and CDP have made since last season.

Sims didn't walk into a finished product on the OLine at some place like Clemson or ND, or Penn State ( in fact ask those Programs would they want Sims right now, even with his "mistakes").

You guys just don't realize what we have with Sims at QB,

Sims is looking good. But it’s also really hard to gauge because we haven’t really been in a game that has demanded high performance the whole game as a back and forth contest. The one time we did need that he did not have good results against NIU and then had so so results against Duke. He also hasnt really faced a strong defense.

in addition his “77 yard bomb” by the box score to open the Duke game was a swing pass to the RB who was uncovered out of the backfield. Not taking anything away from making that play but it wasn’t a downfield 40 air yards play.

He definitely looks better and that’s really encouraging.

When have we consistently brought the best talent from our state? What planet are you on? I've been watching this team for 40 yrs and there's never been a time that we out recruited THIS state against any of our major competitors. The Large OL is paying dividends. As bad as the TO was....at least they played 4 qtrs and were conditioned and disciplined. Yes, I'd take it...
Old man, dumb ass post
